Huawei MateBook Pro S Set to Challenge the MacBook Neo With an Ultra-Light 798g Design
Huawei is preparing for a major product launch on August 5, 2026, and one of the biggest highlights is expected to be the new MateBook Pro S. The upcoming laptop is already drawing attention for one major reason: its incredibly lightweight build.
Huawei has confirmed that the MateBook Pro S will weigh just 798 grams, or around 1.76 pounds. That makes it significantly lighter than Apple’s MacBook Neo, which weighs about 1.23 kilograms, or roughly 2.7 pounds. In practical terms, Huawei’s new laptop is around 1.5 times lighter, positioning it as a strong option for users who want a powerful machine that is easy to carry anywhere.
The company has also released a teaser video showing that the MateBook Pro S will launch in five color options. This could help the device stand out in a market where many premium laptops still rely on more traditional silver, gray, or black finishes. Huawei appears to be targeting buyers who want a sleek productivity laptop with a more stylish and personal design.
Another unusual detail shown in the teaser is a rear camera setup. Rear cameras are not common on laptops, making this one of the more surprising design choices for the MateBook Pro S. Huawei has not yet explained how this camera system will be used, but it could open the door to new features for scanning, photography, augmented reality, or quick document capture.
While Huawei has not fully revealed the laptop’s thickness in the teaser, the company previously confirmed during an official event that the MateBook Pro S will measure just 11.9mm thick. For a 14-inch laptop, that makes it impressively slim and could make it especially appealing to students, professionals, travelers, and remote workers who prioritize portability.
Performance is also expected to be a key focus. Huawei has confirmed that the MateBook Pro S will be powered by the new Kirin XE90 chipset. According to the company, this processor delivers a 23% improvement in single-core performance and a 25% boost in energy efficiency compared to the Kirin X90. The older Kirin X90 was used in the MateBook Pro 2025 and delivered solid everyday performance, so the new chip could bring a noticeable upgrade for multitasking, office work, web browsing, media consumption, and general productivity.
Huawei has not yet shared the complete specification sheet for the MateBook Pro S. However, early expectations point to a 14-inch display with slim bezels, up to 32GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of storage. If these details are confirmed, the laptop could compete strongly in the premium thin-and-light category.
