Beast of Reincarnation Pre-Orders Are Live Ahead of Its August 2026 Launch
Game Freak’s next big project is officially open for pre-orders, and it is shaping up to be one of the studio’s most unexpected releases yet. Beast of Reincarnation, an action RPG developed by Game Freak and published by Fictions, is set to launch worldwide on August 4, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.
The game will also be available on day one through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, giving subscribers immediate access at launch. For Game Freak, best known for its long-running work on Pokémon, Beast of Reincarnation represents a bold creative shift and a major step into darker, more cinematic action RPG territory.
Directed by Kota Furushima and built using Unreal Engine 5, Beast of Reincarnation takes players to a haunting version of Japan in the year 4026. Civilization has collapsed, and the natural world has been reshaped by a mysterious force known as the blight. Plants, animals, and entire landscapes have mutated into dangerous new forms, creating a wilderness that is as beautiful as it is deadly.
At the center of the story is Emma the Sealer, an 18-year-old outcast with the rare ability to manipulate the blight. She is joined by Koo, her loyal blighted canine companion, as the two travel through a ruined world filled with hostile creatures, ancient secrets, and massive bosses. The emotional bond between Emma and Koo appears to be one of the game’s defining features, with the adventure built around the idea of “one-person, one-dog” combat.
The world of Beast of Reincarnation is not static. Environments can shift in real time as players explore, with barren wastelands transforming into dense forests and new threats emerging as the terrain changes. This evolving world design could make exploration feel unpredictable, forcing players to adapt their strategy as paths, hazards, and enemy encounters change around them.
Combat blends fast-paced action with tactical companion mechanics. Players directly control Emma as she uses sword attacks, dodges, ranged abilities, and traversal skills powered by her plant-like hair. She can swing across broken terrain, launch attacks from above, and move through the battlefield with agility.
Koo plays a key role in combat as well. Well-timed parries generate resources that allow players to issue commands to the canine companion, activating special abilities that mix real-time action with strategic decision-making. This system gives battles a layered feel, encouraging players to master both Emma’s moves and Koo’s support skills.
As players explore the blighted wilderness and defeat towering bosses, they will collect spirit stones and unlock new powers. These upgrades expand the skill trees for both Emma and Koo, allowing players to shape their preferred playstyle. Builds can lean toward stealth, close-range melee combat, or ranged attacks, offering flexibility for different approaches.
Early impressions have drawn comparisons to stylish and demanding action games such as Sekiro and NieR: Automata, while the game’s atmosphere and nature-versus-corruption themes may appeal to fans of dark fantasy adventures with a strong emotional core. Its art direction, ruined landscapes, and mutated wildlife give Beast of Reincarnation a distinctive identity that separates it from Game Freak’s more familiar projects.
A full playthrough is expected to take around 30 to 40 hours, making Beast of Reincarnation a substantial action RPG for players looking for a story-driven adventure with exploration, character progression, and challenging combat.
Pre-orders are now available digitally through Steam, the PlayStation Store, and the Xbox Store. Physical editions are also planned for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
The Standard Edition is priced at $59.99 and includes the base game. Players who pre-order this version will receive a Brown Shiba Skin for Koo and 30,000 Amber as bonus content.
The Digital Deluxe Edition costs $69.99 and includes the base game along with extra cosmetic and in-game items. This edition comes with Brown and Black Shiba Skins for Koo, the “Oni’s Hat” accessory for Emma, Emma’s “Big Dipper” sword, 100,000 Amber, and vegetable seedlings for use in-game.
With its post-apocalyptic setting, dynamic world, companion-driven combat, and Game Freak’s surprising move into a darker action RPG space, Beast of Reincarnation is already standing out as one of the more intriguing releases of 2026. Players on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC will be able to experience Emma and Koo’s journey when the game launches globally on August 4, 2026.
