Huawei Unveils Ultra-Slim OLED Tablet That Undercuts the iPad Pro’s Thickness

Huawei has used its latest launch event in Bangkok, Thailand to unveil a fresh lineup of products, with the new MatePad Pro Max stealing the spotlight. Positioned as a thin-and-light alternative to the existing 13.2-inch MatePad Pro, this tablet is clearly aimed at people who want a large-screen premium device without the usual bulk.

One of the biggest talking points is just how slim it is. Huawei says the MatePad Pro Max measures only 4.7mm at its thinnest point, undercutting Apple’s ultra-slim 13-inch iPad Pro, which comes in at 5.1mm. It’s also notably thinner than Huawei’s own 13.2-inch non-Max model, which measures 5.5mm, reinforcing the “Max” branding as a lighter, sleeker take rather than simply a bigger version.

The MatePad Pro Max features a 13.2-inch OLED PaperMatte display. While Huawei’s smaller 12.2-inch MatePad Pro offers a tandem OLED panel, this new model leans into a different display approach designed to balance premium visuals with comfortable viewing. On paper, it’s still a strong setup: a smooth 144Hz refresh rate, up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness, and impressively slim 3.55mm bezels that help the screen feel more expansive and immersive.

Huawei is also pitching the big display as a productivity advantage. The company says users can run three app windows at once, and when combined with PC-level productivity apps, the tablet is meant to support more serious work while traveling or commuting. There’s also support for Huawei accessories, including the Glide folio keyboard and the M-Pencil Pro, for those who want a more laptop-like experience for typing, note-taking, or sketching.

Battery life and versatility are another focus. The MatePad Pro Max includes a 10,400mAh battery, and Huawei highlights 40W reverse charging, which can be useful for topping up other devices when you’re away from a power outlet. For entertainment, the tablet comes with a six-speaker audio system designed to deliver a more immersive listening experience, whether you’re watching videos, gaming, or attending calls.

On the camera side, Huawei includes a 50MP rear camera and claims it can capture detail-rich photos, a feature that may appeal to users who scan documents, shoot quick content, or rely on their tablet camera more often than the average buyer.

Color options include Blue and Space Gray. Configurations are listed with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. The reported starting launch price is £999.99 (around $1,362), and Huawei is expected to share full pricing and availability details soon.
