HMD Skyline 2 Leak Points to a Brighter AMOLED Display, Qi2 Charging, and Upgraded Cameras
The HMD Skyline 2 appears to be moving closer to launch, and early leaks suggest the next-generation mid-range Android phone could bring meaningful upgrades while keeping the standout design of the original model.
According to newly surfaced images and details shared by a reliable tipster, the HMD Skyline 2 is expected to look very similar to its predecessor. That means HMD may once again use the distinctive Lumia-inspired style, combining a squared-off body with a rounded display design. In a smartphone market filled with similar-looking devices, this design could help the Skyline 2 stand out.
The upcoming phone is reportedly planned in three color options: light blue, black, and yellow. While the overall appearance may not change much, the hardware inside could receive several important improvements.
One of the biggest upgrades is expected to be the display. The HMD Skyline 2 is said to feature a 144 Hz OLED screen, just like the first model, but with a much higher HDR peak brightness. Reports claim the new panel could reach up to 2,000 nits, making it twice as bright as before. This should improve outdoor visibility, video playback, and general screen clarity in bright environments.
Performance may also get a boost. The original Skyline used the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, while the Skyline 2 is rumored to move to the newer Snapdragon 7s Gen 4. This chip is expected to deliver better efficiency and around 16 percent higher multi-core performance, which should help with multitasking, gaming, and everyday app use.
Battery and charging improvements are also expected. The HMD Skyline 2 will reportedly support USB-C charging at up to 40W, a slight increase over the previous model. More importantly, magnetic Qi2 wireless charging support is expected to return. The original HMD Skyline was among the first Android smartphones to support magnetic Qi2 accessories, and keeping this feature could make the Skyline 2 appealing to users who want a more convenient wireless charging experience.
The camera system may receive a notable upgrade as well. The phone is expected to keep a 108 MP main camera with optical image stabilization, along with a 50 MP telephoto camera. However, the ultra-wide camera is rumored to be upgraded to a 50 MP sensor, which could improve landscape shots, group photos, and low-light wide-angle photography.
For selfies and video calls, the HMD Skyline 2 is said to include a 50 MP front-facing camera. Other rumored specifications include 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot for expandable storage. A dedicated camera shutter button is also expected, giving the phone a more photography-focused feel.
Another major selling point could be repairability. HMD has been emphasizing easier repairs on some of its recent smartphones, and the Skyline 2 is expected to continue that approach. If true, users may find it easier to replace parts such as the screen or battery compared to many competing devices.
For now, HMD has not officially confirmed the Skyline 2, and there is no confirmed release date or pricing information. However, the leaked images and specifications suggest that the phone could be a strong mid-range option for buyers who want a unique design, a bright OLED display, Qi2 wireless charging, upgraded cameras, expandable storage, and repair-friendly construction.
