The first HMD Skyline turned heads with its Lumia-inspired looks and a starting price around $399. Now the sequel is shaping up to double down on distinctive design and practical upgrades, if a fresh round of leaks is anything to go by.
A well-known tipster suggests the HMD Skyline 2 will move to a metal unibody chassis. Instead of separate frame and back panels, the shell would be a single piece of metal for a cleaner, more rigid build. Expect the Skyline family’s trademark silhouette to remain: softly rounded left and right edges, a subtly curved front frame, and crisp corners that contrast with the display’s rounded edges. The camera array is said to shift to a centered layout, giving the back a more symmetrical, flagship-like look.
Despite the metal unibody, Qi2 wireless charging is reportedly on the menu. However, magnetic alignment for snap-on accessories may be reserved for the HMD Skyline 2 GT, the higher-end variant rumored to pack a few exclusive tricks.
Performance and display specs point to a smooth, fast everyday experience. The standard Skyline 2 is tipped to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, paired with a 6.55-inch pOLED display running at 144Hz and up to 1,200 nits of brightness. On the front, a 50MP selfie camera is rumored, while the rear setup could be led by a 108MP main camera, backed by additional 13MP and 50MP sensors.
Power won’t be in short supply either. A 5,000mAh battery is expected, with 33W wired charging over USB-C. Water resistance is also on the cards, enhancing durability for real-world use.
Those eyeing the HMD Skyline 2 GT may see five notable upgrades. Reports point to a faster Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, 45W fast charging, a dedicated camera shutter button, a Time-of-Flight (ToF) depth sensor, and a camera bump from 13MP to 50MP on one of the secondary rear shooters. Combined with the centered module, the GT variant sounds aimed squarely at photography enthusiasts who want hardware that feels purpose-built.
As with any pre-launch leak, details can shift before the official reveal. But if these specifications hold, the HMD Skyline 2 looks set to bring premium design cues—like a metal unibody, centered camera, and Qi2 wireless charging—to the mid-range, while the Skyline 2 GT raises the bar with faster silicon, upgraded cameras, and enthusiast-focused touches. Pricing and release timing remain unconfirmed, but the direction is clear: bold design, better cameras, and thoughtful quality-of-life features are front and center.
