HKC turned heads at CES by previewing a next-generation MiniLED monitor concept that pushes display tech into true flagship territory: an 8K panel paired with extremely high brightness and advanced backlighting control.
Alongside activity from its partners Koorui and Antgamer—who also brought new gaming-focused displays to the show—HKC’s booth centerpiece was what it describes as the world’s first 8K MiniLED display. The prototype uses a 36.5-inch MiniLED panel with an 8K resolution of 7680 x 4320, delivering a pixel-dense image that’s notably sharper than today’s common 4K and even newer 5K and 6K options.
What makes this display especially interesting isn’t just the resolution. HKC is combining 8K with a peak brightness rating up to 1800 nits, aimed at delivering intense highlights and a more impactful HDR-style viewing experience. The monitor also features 2000+ MiniLED backlight zones supported by local dimming algorithms designed to improve dynamic contrast, deepen dark scenes, and reduce haloing—an issue that can appear around bright objects on darker backgrounds with some backlit displays.
Color performance is another major focus. HKC says the panel covers 100% of the DCI-P3 wide color gamut, positioning it as a strong fit not only for high-end entertainment and gaming visuals, but also for content creators, visual artists, and professionals who prioritize accurate, vivid color reproduction.
For now, HKC appears to be showcasing the technology rather than announcing a finalized retail product. Still, the demo strongly suggests that 8K MiniLED monitors with high zone counts and very high peak brightness could begin appearing in premium, flagship-class displays later this year.
