HiBy RS2 II Debuts With R-2R Sound, Quad Amps, Balanced Output, and Dual microSD Expansion

HiBy RS2 II Portable Hi-Res Music Player Debuts With R-2R DAC, Balanced Output, and Dual microSD Storage

HiBy has introduced the RS2 II, a compact digital audio player designed for listeners who want high-resolution music playback in a device small enough to carry anywhere. Built for audiophiles who prefer dedicated music hardware over smartphone listening, the RS2 II combines a classic R-2R DAC design with powerful headphone amplification and broad file support.

At the center of the HiBy RS2 II is an R-2R digital-to-analog converter paired with four OPA1622 high-fidelity headphone amplifiers. This setup is aimed at delivering a more natural, detailed sound while providing enough driving power for a wide range of headphones. The player includes both a 3.5 mm stereo headphone jack and a 4.4 mm balanced headphone output, making it suitable for casual listening as well as more demanding audio setups.

For the 3.5 mm output, the RS2 II can deliver up to 172.5 mW of power with a maximum output of 2.3 Vrms. Through the 4.4 mm balanced connection, output rises significantly to 630 mW with up to 4.5 Vrms. HiBy lists a frequency response of 20 Hz to 40 kHz, total harmonic distortion of 0.0008%, a dynamic range of 105 dB, and a signal-to-noise ratio of 120 dB when using balanced headphones.

The RS2 II is also flexible enough to work with other audio gear. It can function as a USB-C DAC when connected to a laptop, allowing users to upgrade their computer audio experience. It also includes coaxial digital output and line-out analog output for connection to external amplifiers or audio systems. However, the device focuses on wired listening and does not include Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity.

File compatibility is another strong point. The HiBy RS2 II supports popular formats such as MP3, AAC, FLAC, WAV, DSF, and OPUS. It also handles high-resolution playback including DSD256, MQA 8x, and PCM audio up to 32-bit/384 kHz. For listeners with large offline music libraries, the player includes two microSD card slots, each supporting cards up to 2 TB. That gives users the potential to carry a massive collection of lossless and hi-res tracks without relying on streaming.

The player runs on HiBy OS, a Linux-based operating system controlled through a 3.55-inch touchscreen with a 480 x 800 resolution. Beyond basic playback controls, the RS2 II offers deeper sound adjustment options that are uncommon on many portable music players. Users can fine-tune elements such as sibilance and note thickness, giving them more control over the character and presentation of their music.

Despite its audio-focused hardware, the RS2 II remains portable. It measures 3.62 x 2.44 x 0.73 inches, or 91.95 x 62.05 x 18.6 mm. The standard green aluminum version weighs 5.5 ounces, or 156 grams, while the limited gold brass model is heavier at 8.5 ounces, or 240 grams.

Battery life is rated at up to 8 hours when using balanced headphones. The built-in 3,500 mAh battery charges through USB-C using a 5V 2A power source.

The HiBy RS2 II is available in two versions. The standard green aluminum model is priced at $439, while the limited-edition gold brass model costs $549 and is restricted to 500 units. With its R-2R DAC, strong balanced output, dual microSD storage, and advanced audio controls, the RS2 II is positioned as a compact high-resolution music player for serious portable listening.
