Hercules Futura SL 12 LTD Debuts as a 17kg Lightweight E-Bike With Bosch SX Power and Shimano XT

Hercules Futura SL 12 LTD debuts as a lightweight trekking e-bike with Bosch power and touring-ready features

Hercules has introduced the Futura SL 12 LTD, a new lightweight trekking e-bike designed for riders who want daily practicality, comfortable touring capability, and a noticeably lower overall weight. Built for the 2027 model year, the new model focuses on efficiency without stripping away the features that make a trekking e-bike useful for commuting, weekend rides, and longer-distance cycling.

One of the biggest highlights is its reduced weight. The Hercules Futura SL 12 LTD weighs 17.4 kg, or around 38.36 lb, with pedals fitted. Without pedals, the weight drops to 17 kg. That makes it 300 grams lighter than the earlier Futura SL I-12, showing that Hercules has refined the platform while keeping it fully equipped for real-world use.

Despite its lightweight construction, this is not a minimalist e-bike. The Futura SL 12 LTD comes with practical equipment already installed, including an integrated lighting system, a rear luggage rack, and a fender-mounted rear light. These details make it suitable for everyday riding straight from the shop, whether used for commuting, errands, fitness rides, or light touring.

To keep the weight down, Hercules has chosen the Bosch Performance Line SX mid-drive motor rather than a heavier high-torque unit. This compact drive system delivers up to 60 Nm of torque, providing enough assistance for urban riding, rolling countryside routes, and moderate climbs while helping preserve the bike’s agile feel.

Power comes from a 400 Wh Bosch CompactTube battery. For riders planning longer tours or extended days in the saddle, the battery range can be increased with an optional range extender. This gives the Futura SL 12 LTD more flexibility, making it a practical choice for cyclists who want a lighter e-bike during the week but extra range when needed.

The cockpit uses the Bosch Purion 200 display, a compact control unit that provides essential ride information without cluttering the handlebar area. It offers a clean and simple interface for checking assistance modes, battery status, and ride data.

Hercules has also equipped the bike with reliable components aimed at efficiency and control. Braking is handled by Shimano BR-UR300 hydraulic disc brakes with 180 mm rotors at both the front and rear, giving the bike dependable stopping power in varied conditions.

For tires, the Futura SL 12 LTD uses Schwalbe G-One RS Pro Evo gravel tires. These are designed to reduce rolling resistance while still offering grip on looser surfaces, making the bike suitable for paved roads, cycle paths, gravel tracks, and mixed-terrain touring.

The frame is made from aluminum, while a carbon fork helps reduce weight and improve ride comfort. Gear shifting is managed by a 12-speed Shimano XT RD-M8100 drivetrain, giving riders a wide range of gears for climbs, flat roads, and faster cruising.

With its combination of low weight, Bosch mid-drive assistance, practical commuter equipment, and expandable battery range, the Hercules Futura SL 12 LTD is positioned as a versatile premium trekking e-bike for riders who do not want to choose between performance and everyday usability.

The 2027 Hercules Futura SL 12 LTD is priced at €3,999. The brand is also active in international markets, including the UK.
