Casio’s latest G-Shock Mudman, the GW-9502KJ-8, has surfaced in a fresh set of hands-on photos, giving fans a clearer look at its hippo-inspired styling and rugged, outdoor-first feature set. Part of the Love the Sea and the Earth collection created with Earthwatch Japan, this special edition leans hard into its theme with textures and tones that echo the look and feel of a hippopotamus.
Up close, the Mudman’s round, positive display is framed by a black ring and a chunky bezel finished in a distinctive black and red-brown pattern meant to mimic hippo skin. Matte gray and matte brown case elements round out the palette, creating a subdued, earthy look that stands apart from the brand’s usual high-contrast colorways.
The new photos also reveal a subtle color surprise: the metallic buttons appear more gold than the bronze or rose-gold hue suggested by the official product images. It’s a small shift, but one that gives the watch a slightly warmer, premium accent in real-world lighting.
The resin band carries the theme further with a gray base overlaid by the same black and red-brown pattern seen on the bezel. A raised dot texture nods to the rough, tactile quality of a hippo’s skin, while a matte black strap loop with the Earthwatch logo contrasts nicely with the band’s shinier finish.
Beyond the design story, this Mudman is built for exploration. It’s a mud-resistant digital watch with radio-controlled timekeeping across 31 time zones, and it’s loaded with tools for the outdoors: a compass, altimeter, barometer, and thermometer. Sunrise and sunset times provide quick daylight planning, and Tough Solar charging keeps the watch powered with minimal fuss.
