Govee is getting ready to launch something new for backyard lighting fans: its first-ever solar-powered outdoor string lights. The product, called the Govee Outdoor Solar String Lights, has already appeared on the company’s official “coming soon” listings in both the US and EU, signaling a release is on the horizon.
These upcoming smart string lights are designed to bring both practical illumination and colorful ambiance to patios, gardens, balconies, pergolas, and outdoor entertaining spaces. According to early details shared by Govee, the Outdoor Solar String Lights will support 16 million colors, giving you plenty of options for holiday themes, parties, or everyday accent lighting. Along with solid colors, there will be preset dynamic lighting effects, and you’ll also be able to create your own custom looks.
Brightness has been mentioned too, with each bulb expected to deliver up to 50 lumens. That suggests these lights aren’t only for subtle decoration—they should also provide useful glow for outdoor areas, depending on how many bulbs are included in the final kit.
One of the biggest changes compared with many plug-in alternatives is the included solar panel accessory. Product images show a panel that can be mounted into the ground using a stake, making it easier to place in a sunny spot while running the string lights where you actually want them. To help when sunlight is limited, Govee says the system includes a built-in 4,800mAh battery, which can extend runtime after dark or during cloudy weather.
Durability is clearly a focus as well. Both the string lights and the solar panel are listed as IP67-rated, meaning they’re designed to withstand outdoor conditions and should be suitable for year-round use.
Some key details still haven’t been confirmed, including the total string length, the number of bulbs, and whether the lights will support Matter for broader smart home compatibility. Govee also hasn’t officially confirmed app control yet, though the brand’s smart lighting products typically use smartphone-based controls for changing colors, scenes, and effects.
Pricing and a final release date also remain under wraps. For a rough point of reference, Govee’s existing Outdoor String Lights 2 in a 144-foot version are priced around $189.99, which gives a general idea of where the new solar model could land—though the final cost may differ depending on the included length, features, and power setup.
For now, the Govee Outdoor Solar String Lights look like a promising option for anyone who wants smart, colorful outdoor lighting without relying on an outlet, and they’re worth watching as Govee reveals the remaining specs.
