Google Play Adds Venmo as a New Payment Option for Apps, Games, and Digital Content
Google is making it easier for users to pay for digital purchases by adding Venmo as a payment option on Google Play. The new option allows customers to use Venmo when buying apps, games, in-app add-ons, subscriptions, and other digital content through the Play Store.
With this update, users can pay using their Venmo balance or choose from payment methods connected to their Venmo account, including linked bank accounts, debit cards, and credit cards. The feature can also be used for recurring subscriptions and for tipping creators inside supported content-based apps.
To set it up, users can open their Google Play account settings, go to payment methods, and link their Venmo account. Once connected, Venmo will appear as an available checkout option for eligible purchases.
The addition gives Google Play users another flexible way to manage digital spending. In the United States, Google Play already supports several payment options, including PayPal, Cash App, major credit and debit cards from American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and JCB, along with other supported methods.
Google has also tested different payment approaches in markets outside the U.S., including options that let users pay for digital purchases with cash at nearby retail locations. These efforts reflect the company’s push to make app store payments more accessible to users with different banking habits and payment preferences.
The move comes as global spending on mobile apps and games continues to rise. According to data from analytics firm Sensor Tower, consumer spending across iOS and Google Play reached more than $167 billion in 2025 for in-app purchases, representing a 10.6% increase year over year.
By adding Venmo to Google Play, Google is tapping into a widely used peer-to-peer payment platform and giving Android users a familiar checkout method. For people who already use Venmo for everyday payments, splitting bills, or sending money to friends, the new integration could make buying digital content on Google Play feel faster and more convenient.
