Google has introduced an innovative app called Doppl, aimed at transforming the way we think about fashion. Available on both iOS and Android in the U.S., this experimental app leverages AI to let users virtually try on different outfits using a digital avatar of themselves.
Doppl kicks off by asking you to upload a full-body photo. Once uploaded, you can select various outfits by using photos or screenshots—whether it’s a cool find from a thrift store or something a friend is wearing. It even works with outfits you come across while scrolling through social media.
After picking an outfit, Doppl generates an image showing the virtual you wearing the ensemble. To give you a deeper sense of how it would look in real life, the app can transform these images into AI-generated videos. This way, you can see how the clothing flows and fits from different angles.
Customization is key, as you can save your favorite looks and revisit them later. The app also allows sharing, making it easy to show off your digital fashion discoveries to others.
This fresh venture by Google builds upon its already established virtual try-on technology. By offering Doppl as a standalone app, the company enhances accessibility and encourages users to explore personal style in an interactive manner. It’s also an opportunity for Google to gather insights on the app’s performance, which could inform future developments in this exciting space.
Unlike previous virtual try-on features focused on diverse model bodies, Doppl lets you experiment with styles on an animated version of yourself, adding a personal touch to the virtual shopping experience.
As a Google Labs experiment, Doppl is still evolving. The company notes that results might not always be spot-on when it comes to fit, appearance, and clothing details. However, it hopes that this tool will inspire users to explore their fashion sense in exciting new ways.
For now, the app is exclusive to the U.S., and it’s unclear if or when Google plans to expand Doppl’s reach to more regions.
