GMKtec EVO-X5 Pro Debuts as a Compact Mini PC Built for AI Workloads
GMKtec has introduced the EVO-X5 Pro, a compact desktop system designed to deliver serious performance in a small form factor. Aimed at users who need powerful local computing for artificial intelligence, productivity, networking, and expansion-heavy setups, the EVO-X5 Pro stands out with high-end connectivity and support for advanced multi-system configurations.
One of the biggest highlights of the GMKtec EVO-X5 Pro is its modern port selection. The mini PC comes equipped with four USB4 ports, giving users plenty of room for high-speed accessories, storage devices, docking stations, and external display setups. These USB4 ports also support external GPU expansion, allowing users to add more graphics power when needed. While this connection is not as fast as OCuLink for eGPU setups, it still gives the compact machine far more flexibility than many traditional mini PCs.
The EVO-X5 Pro also includes two Ethernet ports, making it suitable for demanding network environments. One of those ports supports speeds of up to 10 Gbps, which is a major advantage for users working with large file transfers, local servers, NAS systems, virtualization, or professional workloads that depend on fast wired networking.
Another interesting feature is the ability to connect up to four EVO-X5 Pro systems together in a cluster. This makes the device especially appealing for developers, AI researchers, homelab builders, and power users who want to scale computing performance without relying on a large workstation tower.
GMKtec demonstrated the EVO-X5 Pro running Qwen3.8-Flash-Next in a live showcase, where the system generated output at double-digit tokens per second. The result was a smooth, responsive experience that showed the mini PC’s potential for local AI tasks and interactive language model workloads. For users interested in running AI models directly on their own hardware, this type of performance could make the EVO-X5 Pro a compelling option.
Although GMKtec has not confirmed the official price or release date yet, the EVO-X5 Pro is expected to land in the premium mini PC category. Its large RAM capacity, high-speed networking, USB4 expansion, and AI-focused performance suggest that it will be positioned as a powerful compact workstation rather than a budget-friendly desktop alternative.
With its combination of portability, expandability, and strong local AI capability, the GMKtec EVO-X5 Pro could become one of the more interesting mini PCs for users who want workstation-style features in a much smaller package.
