Competition in the email market is getting intense! With Apple’s iOS 18 bringing a whole host of new, Gmail-like features to its Mail app, Google couldn’t stay idle. Just this Wednesday, Google announced a fresh set of enhancements for Gmail, and you might want to gear up for some exciting changes.
Google is introducing upgraded “summary cards” into Gmail, aimed at making your inbox experience smoother and more organized. These revamped cards are designed to help you quickly track packages, check in for flights, set reminders, and mark bills as paid all from within your email. The goal? To save you the hassle of digging through countless messages for important info like receipts, bills, travel confirmations, and even dinner reservations.
These new summary cards will visually arrange data culled from related emails across categories such as Purchases, Events, Bills, and Travel. This means you’ll no longer need to open each email individually to get the info you need. For instance, details about your package’s arrival, flight times, or bill due dates will be right there at the top of your email.
But there’s more! At the bottom of each summary card, you’ll find blue action buttons that make it easy to do what you need to do. Want to track a package, view an order, get directions to an event, or manage your airline booking? Just a click away. These dynamic cards update in real-time, staying current with the latest information.
This launch builds on Gmail’s existing summary cards, which already offered key info snippets at the top of an email, such as package tracking. However, the new updates go beyond that by introducing functionalities like flight check-ins, bill pay reminders, and even the ability to invite others to an event.
In addition to this, Gmail will roll out a new “Happening soon” section in your inbox. Here you’ll find timely summary cards for easy access. Eventually, these cards will also appear in your Gmail search results.
Starting October 2, these new purchase summary cards will begin rolling out for both iOS and Android users. Some folks have already noticed these features ahead of the official launch. Over the next month, users can expect further enhancements, including the “Happening soon” section and additional summary card categories. As time goes on, you’ll see more summary cards for purchases, events, bills, and travel popping up across individual emails, the “Happening soon” section, and even in search.
Stay tuned, Gmail users—your inbox experience is about to become a lot more efficient and user-friendly!
