Garmin is keeping the updates coming, and Fenix owners are seeing changes arrive faster than expected. Not long after rolling out System Software 21.25 for the Fenix E, Fenix 8, and Fenix 8 Pro, Garmin followed up with System Software 21.27 for the Tactix 8. These releases were widely seen as a sign that Garmin’s v21.xx beta cycle was wrapping up—but the company is clearly not finished yet.
Garmin has now returned to its Beta Program with Beta Version 21.28, though this release comes with a notable twist: it’s being distributed only to the Fenix 8 Pro. The update is also available for the micro LED variants, and Garmin says it has already reached 100% of eligible Beta Program participants. With full beta availability already in place, it’s a strong sign that version 21.28 could move to the stable update channel in the near future.
So what does Beta Version 21.28 actually change? Garmin lists one specific fix: it resolves an issue where the LTE searching and standby banner was appearing too frequently. While it’s a small changelog on paper, it targets a real-world annoyance for users who rely on LTE features and don’t want constant on-screen prompts interrupting the experience.
At the same time, there’s another improvement that many owners will likely appreciate even more. Garmin has reportedly restored the manual Sleep Focus option across the Fenix 8 lineup and related models. That means users can once again set Sleep Focus as a shortcut and turn it on manually when needed—useful for anyone with shifting schedules, travel plans, naps, or simply a different bedtime routine than their watch predicts.
Based on current information, the restored manual Sleep Focus capability appears to be live not only in Beta Version 21.28, but also in System Software 21.25 and 21.27. In other words, you may already have the option available if your device is updated, even if you’re not on the beta track.
For Garmin Fenix 8 and Tactix 8 users, these quick-fire releases show Garmin is still actively refining the v21 software experience—especially around LTE behavior and sleep mode controls, two areas that directly affect day-to-day usability.
