Garmin Enhances Mid-Range Smartwatches with Latest GPS and Activity Tracking Improvements

Garmin has rolled out a fresh update for its Instinct 2 series, indicating a shift in focus toward software refinement for these mid-range smartwatches. Currently available through its beta channel, this update tackles critical GPS and Connect activity bugs that have persisted in earlier versions.

More than three weeks have passed since Garmin introduced Beta Version 17.00 for models like the Instinct 2 and Instinct Crossover, including the Instinct 2 Solar, which is currently priced at $329.99. That update concentrated on rectifying charging issues. Now, Garmin presents Beta Version 17.01, a build dedicated to bug fixes, with no new features added this time.

This latest update is designed to address two main problems. It resolves a glitch that previously prevented the Connect app from correctly displaying the course used during activities. Additionally, it fixes an issue related to the Connected Predicted Ephemeris (CPE) data, which sometimes appeared missing or showed incorrect GPS versions. This particular fix applies to the Instinct 2X and Instinct Crossover models.

For now, Garmin has made Beta Version 17.01 available exclusively through a forum post, requiring users to download and install it manually. Unfortunately, it is not accessible via Garmin Connect Mobile or other over-the-air services, so users should refer to Garmin’s forum for detailed instructions.

This ongoing commitment to ironing out software issues underscores Garmin’s dedication to improving the user experience of its smartwatch lineup. Keep an eye on updates to ensure your device runs smoothly.
