Garmin is rolling out a fresh beta software update for several of its most popular high-end smartwatches, bringing a long list of fixes designed to improve stability, polish everyday features, and reduce the chance of random crashes. If you use a Garmin watch for training, navigation, or outdoor adventures, this is the kind of behind-the-scenes update that can make day-to-day performance feel noticeably smoother.
After recently pushing a stable update to the Fenix 8 Pro (System Software 21.41) that focused on general bug fixes and improvements, Garmin has now turned its attention back to the beta channel. The newest release is Beta Version 22.27, which replaces earlier beta builds in the same 22.xx series.
This beta update applies to a wider lineup, including the Fenix 8 Pro and other related models such as the Enduro 3, Fenix E, Fenix 8, Quatix 8, and Tactix 8. Garmin says the rollout is currently reaching around 50% of users enrolled in its Beta Program, so if you’re participating and haven’t received it yet, it may take a few more days to appear on your device.
Garmin also suggests more beta releases could still arrive before the company moves the 22.xx firmware branch into the stable update channel. In other words, Beta 22.27 is part of an ongoing refinement cycle rather than the final word.
What’s actually changed in Beta 22.27? Across Beta Versions 22.24 through 22.27, Garmin has addressed about 15 issues. Only six of those fixes are newly added since Beta 22.26, but the overall list covers a lot of real-world annoyances—everything from battery estimate quirks to activity glitches and occasional crashes.
Here are the fixes included across Beta 22.24 to 22.27:
Fixes battery estimates when switching power modes for activities.
Fixes getting stuck in the map activity when doing a Sight N’ Go.
Fixes long-press and swipe-down not working when the notification centre is disabled.
Fixes music app marquee stopping when resuming always display.
Fixes night vision colour shift not working. (Tactix 8 only)
Fixes possible crash when dismissing notifications.
Fixes possible crash when doing activities.
Fixes possible crash when updating audio prompt files along with device software.
Fixes possible crash when using LiveTrack.
Fixes possible issue where the down button would not work when selecting difficulty for rock climbing or bouldering activities.
Fixes possible issue where the watch would no longer play the boot animation.
Fixes spectator messaging not vibrating or sounding when receiving a message.
Fixes track detection being enabled for trail run activities.
Fixes weather app not updating when you enter the app.
Updates translations.
For many users, the biggest takeaway is reliability. Garmin is specifically targeting crashes that were reported on older firmware, plus a mix of UI and feature-specific bugs that can interrupt training sessions, navigation, music playback, and connected features like LiveTrack.
If you rely on your Garmin watch for guided routes, outdoor mapping, or safety tracking, Beta 22.27 is a meaningful step toward a more stable experience—especially as Garmin continues to refine the Fenix 8 family and its performance-focused siblings.
