Fresh new leaks suggest Samsung is preparing a noticeable design upgrade for its next foldable flagship, the Galaxy Z Fold8. The biggest visual change? A much smaller selfie camera cutout on the cover display, designed to give you more usable screen space and a cleaner look when you’re checking notifications, scrolling, or taking quick selfies.
According to well-known leaker Ice Universe, the Galaxy Z Fold8 will shrink the cover screen punch-hole camera from 3.7mm on the Galaxy Z Fold7 down to just 2.5mm. That’s roughly a 32% reduction in diameter, and it’s being credited to “new technology” used in the way the display and front camera are integrated. The result should be a more immersive external display experience without removing the camera entirely.
This also answers a question many foldable fans keep asking: will Samsung finally use an under-display camera on the cover screen? Based on this information, the answer appears to be no. Instead, Samsung seems to be sticking with the reliability and image quality of a traditional punch-hole camera for the outer display—just with a much smaller footprint than before.
What makes this leak even more interesting is what it could mean for the large inner screen. The Galaxy Z Fold line is known for its tablet-like internal display, and the Fold8 is expected to feature a massive 8-inch panel. If Samsung brings the same 2.5mm punch-hole approach to the inner display as well, the camera cutout could become far less noticeable during movies, gaming, reading, and multitasking. However, the leak only confirms the smaller cutout for the cover screen for now, so the inner camera situation remains unconfirmed.
Samsung has been working on improving its under-display camera technology for the internal screen, but this latest detail suggests the company is still balancing futuristic design with practical performance—especially for the camera you’ll likely use most often on the go.
As for timing, the Galaxy Z Fold8 is expected to launch at Samsung’s summer 2026 event, likely in July or August. It may also arrive alongside a larger sibling, rumored to be called the Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide, which has already been the subject of separate size and dimension chatter.
If this leak holds true, the Galaxy Z Fold8 could deliver one of those subtle but meaningful upgrades that foldable buyers actually feel every day: more screen, less distraction, and a cleaner-looking display the moment you open your phone.
