Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 8 leaks point to slimmer designs, bigger batteries, and a reduced crease
Samsung’s next-generation foldable phones are already becoming one of the biggest talking points ahead of their expected July launch. Fresh leaks surrounding the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 8 suggest that Samsung may be preparing one of its most refined foldable lineups yet, with thinner bodies, lighter builds, improved cameras, faster charging, and a noticeably less visible display crease.
According to the latest information from well-known tipster Ice Universe, high-quality dummy units have offered the clearest look so far at what Samsung’s upcoming foldables could look like. The leaks suggest that the company is making major design adjustments, especially in thickness and weight, while also working to solve one of the most common complaints about foldable smartphones: the crease.
Samsung is expected to position the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra as the true successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Meanwhile, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is said to be a wider and shorter model, possibly designed to compete more directly with Apple’s rumored iPhone Ultra. This naming strategy would allow Samsung to offer two different foldable experiences under the same Galaxy Z Fold 8 family.
One of the most interesting parts of the latest leak is the claim that Samsung has managed to significantly reduce the appearance of the crease on both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 8. Foldable phone users have been asking for a smoother inner display for years, and Samsung may finally be ready to deliver a more polished experience.
Earlier information suggested that Samsung could use Ultra-Thin Glass on both the top and bottom layers of the foldable display. This approach may help reduce the visible crease by at least 20 percent. Samsung has also shown off advanced crease-reduction display technology in the past, using a redesigned laminate structure, better light dispersion, and a metal support plate under the OLED panel.
That metal plate reportedly includes laser-drilled perforations that help spread folding pressure more evenly. Instead of the pressure concentrating in the same exact area every time the phone is opened or closed, the force is distributed in a more balanced way. This could help the foldable screen maintain a flatter look over time and make the inner display feel more premium.
The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is shaping up to be especially impressive in terms of portability. The device is rumored to weigh just 201 grams, which would make it extremely light for a large foldable phone. It is also said to measure only 4.5mm thick when unfolded, making it one of the thinnest book-style foldables on the market.
Battery life may also see a welcome improvement. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to include a 4,800mAh battery with support for 45W wired charging. That would give users a better balance of thin design and practical endurance, especially for multitasking, gaming, streaming, and productivity on the larger inner screen.
Camera upgrades are also reportedly planned. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 may feature a new 50MP sensor and support a native 24MP shooting mode without requiring Samsung’s Camera Assistant app. This would make high-resolution photography more convenient for everyday users and could improve detail, color, and flexibility when capturing images.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, meanwhile, appears to be focused on premium build quality and a sleeker form factor. The device is rumored to weigh 215 grams, the same as the Galaxy Z Fold 7. While that means it may not be lighter than its predecessor, Samsung is reportedly making it much thinner. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra could measure just 4.1mm when unfolded, which would be an impressive achievement for a flagship foldable.
Battery capacity is also expected to increase on the Ultra model. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra may move from a 4,400mAh battery to a larger 5,000mAh unit, with 45W wired charging support. For users who rely on foldables as productivity devices, that extra capacity could make a meaningful difference during long workdays.
However, the “Ultra” branding may not bring every premium feature some fans were hoping for. Current leaks suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will not include a Galaxy S26 Ultra-style Privacy Display. It is also expected to use an older-generation M14 OLED panel rather than Samsung’s newest display technology. In addition, S Pen support is reportedly not included, which may disappoint users who see the Fold series as a natural replacement for the Galaxy Note lineup.
That makes the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra a curious device. Its Ultra identity may depend mainly on three areas: a thinner unfolded body, a larger 5,000mAh battery, and its position as Samsung’s top foldable model. While those are meaningful improvements, the absence of S Pen support and the use of an older OLED panel could raise questions about whether it truly deserves the Ultra name.
Still, if the leaks are accurate, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 series could mark a major step forward for foldable smartphones. A lighter standard model, a thinner Ultra version, better battery capacity, faster charging, improved camera software, and a reduced crease would all help make Samsung’s foldables more appealing to mainstream buyers.
With a launch expected in July, more details are likely to surface in the coming months. For now, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 8 appear to be focused on refinement rather than reinvention, but those refinements could be exactly what Samsung needs to keep its lead in the foldable phone market.
