Fresh details about Samsung’s next foldable wave are starting to stack up, and the most intriguing device may not be the top-tier Galaxy Z Fold 8 at all. Right after the Galaxy Z Fold 8 CAD renders appeared, new renders have surfaced showing a different, more compact book-style foldable that’s expected to launch alongside Samsung’s premium foldables in July.
Samsung has already confirmed it’s developing a cheaper book-style foldable, and this model is widely rumored to be branded as the Galaxy Wide Fold or possibly the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide (the final name isn’t confirmed yet). What makes it stand out is its shape: the renders depict a phone that’s shorter but noticeably wider than the standard Fold design, aiming for a more tablet-like feel when opened while still keeping the foldable footprint manageable.
A familiar style, but with fewer cameras
From what’s shown, Samsung appears to be sticking closely to its current foldable design language. The big visual change is on the back: the camera setup is reduced to two lenses instead of the usual higher-end multi-camera arrangement. That cutback fits the idea of a more affordable foldable, even if it means fewer photography options compared to the flagship Fold.
Aside from the camera reduction and the altered proportions, there don’t seem to be major design overhauls. The renders suggest Samsung is still prioritizing a slim profile, keeping the device looking modern and pocket-friendly for a folding phone.
Expected specs: flagship power, big battery, and a wider aspect ratio
Interestingly, the rumored specs don’t read like a “budget” phone in the performance department. The Galaxy Wide Fold is said to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, which would put it firmly in flagship territory for speed, gaming performance, and on-device AI features.
Battery and charging details also sound promising. Leaks point to a 5,000 mAh battery paired with 45W wired charging, which could make this model appealing to users who want a foldable that can last through heavy daily use.
Screen sizes mentioned in the report include a 5.4-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch inner display. With those proportions, the inner screen is expected to land around a 4:3 aspect ratio, a shape many people prefer for reading, browsing, split-screen multitasking, and some types of content creation.
Size and dimensions: compact, wide, and slightly thicker
As a more compact alternative, the Wide Fold is said to measure about 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.9 mm when unfolded (including bezels). Without the bezels, thickness is estimated at around 4.3 mm. When folded, it’s expected to come in at roughly 123.9 x 82.2 x 9.8 mm.
That could make it a bit chunkier than the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which is rumored to closely match the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s dimensions. Still, it’s worth keeping in mind these are early renders, so the exact measurements could change before launch.
Why this foldable could be the one to watch
A cheaper book-style foldable usually means compromises, and the two-camera setup looks like the most obvious place Samsung is trimming costs. But keeping a top-end Snapdragon “for Galaxy” chip would be a major win, especially for buyers who want foldable innovation without stepping down on performance.
If Samsung delivers this shorter, wider foldable at a more accessible price while maintaining strong battery life and flagship-level speed, the Galaxy Wide Fold could end up being the more practical—and more exciting—option in the 2026 foldable lineup.
