The Galaxy S27 Ultra is already shaping up to be one of the most talked-about flagship phones of its generation, with early leaks pointing to several meaningful upgrades. However, the latest rumor suggests that Samsung’s next premium Ultra model may skip two highly anticipated hardware improvements: UFS 5.0 storage and LPDDR6 RAM.

For months, speculation has suggested that both the Galaxy S27 Ultra and Galaxy S27 Pro could move to faster UFS 5.0 storage, alongside other internal upgrades. But according to a recent claim from leaker Lanzuk, Samsung may decide not to include UFS 5.0 or LPDDR6 memory in the Galaxy S27 series. If accurate, this would mean the Galaxy S27 Ultra and likely the Galaxy S27 Pro will continue using current-generation memory and storage standards instead of adopting the newest available options.

The reason appears to be availability and production scale. The leaker claims that only a small number of smartphone brands are expected to use LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5.0 storage in flagship models next year. Even then, these devices may be produced in limited quantities rather than becoming widely available mainstream releases.

This would not necessarily mean the Galaxy S27 Ultra will feel slow. Samsung’s current flagship phones already deliver extremely fast real-world performance, and the company may rely on chipset improvements, software optimization, and other hardware upgrades to keep the S27 Ultra competitive. Still, for users expecting the absolute latest memory and storage technology, this rumor could be disappointing.

UFS 5.0 is expected to offer a major speed jump over UFS 4.1. The newer standard can reportedly reach sequential read speeds of up to 10.8GB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 9.5GB/s. By comparison, UFS 4.1 is rated at around 4.3GB/s read speeds and 4.1GB/s write speeds. On paper, that is a substantial improvement, especially for large file transfers, high-resolution video recording, AI processing, and demanding mobile gaming.

LPDDR6 memory is also expected to improve bandwidth and efficiency. Current LPDDR6 modules are reportedly rated at 10.7Gbps, although Samsung has already managed to reach similar speeds with advanced LPDDR5X memory. Because of that, the company may feel there is not yet enough practical benefit to justify using LPDDR6 in the Galaxy S27 lineup, especially if cost or supply remains a concern.

It is still unclear whether every Galaxy S27 model will skip these upgrades. The lineup is expected to include variants powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and others using Samsung’s Exynos 2700, depending on the region. At this stage, there is no confirmation on whether storage and memory choices will differ between chipset versions.

Even without UFS 5.0 and LPDDR6, the Galaxy S27 Ultra is still expected to bring several improvements. Samsung typically focuses on camera upgrades, display quality, battery efficiency, AI features, and overall system performance for its Ultra models. The absence of these two components may not be a deal-breaker for most buyers, but it could matter to enthusiasts who follow specification changes closely.

As always with early leaks, this information should be treated as unofficial until Samsung confirms the Galaxy S27 series. The company’s final hardware decisions may change before launch, especially as memory and storage production improves. For now, though, the Galaxy S27 Ultra may be a powerful flagship that plays it safe in two important areas.
