Samsung’s Next 200MP Camera Sensor Could Debut on the Oppo Find X10 Ultra Instead of the Galaxy S27 Ultra

A major smartphone camera leak is already stirring excitement for 2027, and it suggests that the next big leap in mobile photography may not arrive first on a Samsung Galaxy device.

According to well-known industry insiders, Samsung is developing a new 200MP camera sensor called the HPA, and it could become one of the most powerful smartphone camera sensors ever made. The surprising twist is that Samsung may not use this cutting-edge sensor in its own Galaxy S27 Ultra. Instead, the Oppo Find X10 Ultra is rumored to be the first phone to feature it.

The Samsung HPA sensor is said to measure 1/1.12 inches, making it extremely large for a smartphone camera. While it is not quite a full 1-inch sensor, it comes very close, which could give it a major advantage in low-light photography, detail capture, depth, and natural image processing.

The biggest upgrade, however, may be the inclusion of LOFIC technology. LOFIC, short for Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor, is a hardware-based camera enhancement designed to improve dynamic range. In simple terms, it helps a camera handle very bright and very dark areas in the same image without losing detail.

This means photos could show fewer blown-out highlights in bright skies, neon lights, or reflective surfaces, while also preserving more detail in shadows. Instead of relying only on software and computational photography after the shot is taken, LOFIC improves image quality directly at the sensor level.

That could make the Oppo Find X10 Ultra one of the most exciting camera phones of 2027, especially for users who care about flagship mobile photography, high-resolution images, night shots, and video performance.

Meanwhile, Samsung’s own Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to take a different route. Current rumors suggest it may still receive a new 200MP main camera, but with a slightly smaller 1/1.2-inch sensor. This would still be a premium upgrade, but it may not include the same advanced LOFIC dynamic range technology expected on the HPA sensor.

If true, this would be an unusual move. Samsung has often reserved its most impressive camera hardware for its Ultra-branded Galaxy phones. However, the company also supplies image sensors to other smartphone brands, and Chinese flagship phones have recently become aggressive in adopting advanced camera hardware before many global competitors.

The Galaxy S27 Ultra may also bring a redesigned camera setup. Reports suggest Samsung could remove the small 3x telephoto camera found on previous Ultra models and rely more heavily on in-sensor zoom. This could allow Samsung to simplify the rear camera layout while focusing more space and resources on the main camera, ultra-wide camera, and 5x zoom lens.

A streamlined three-camera system could make sense if Samsung improves sensor quality and computational zoom. However, removing a dedicated 3x camera may also divide fans, especially those who prefer optical zoom at multiple focal lengths.

For now, everything remains unofficial. The Galaxy S27 Ultra and Oppo Find X10 Ultra are still far from launch, and camera plans can change before mass production begins. Still, the leak points to an exciting future for smartphone photography.

If the Samsung HPA sensor with LOFIC technology performs as rumored, the Oppo Find X10 Ultra could become a serious contender for the best camera phone of 2027. At the same time, Samsung’s Galaxy S27 Ultra may still offer a powerful imaging system, even if it misses out on the company’s most advanced 200MP sensor.
