GALAX’s GeForce RTX 5090D HOF OC LAB edition has recently appeared on eBay, sporting an eye-popping price tag of around $5,500. This hefty cost places it among the most luxurious GB202-based NVIDIA GPUs ever. The 5090D, a Chinese-exclusive model, was designed to align with U.S. export restrictions and significantly outstrips the price of the flagship RTX 5090. While the typical third-party versions of the RTX 5090 top out at $3,000 in the U.S., NVIDIA’s Founder’s Edition is listed with an MSRP of $2,000.
Despite being a slightly reduced version in terms of AI performance, the astronomical pricing of the RTX 5090D may be due to limited supply in mainland China, elevating it to a coveted collectible status. These shortages began when NVIDIA discontinued the card in Q2 2025, a decision driven by tightening U.S. export restrictions. This suspension created scarcity, further inflating the price of the GALAX HOF OC LAB variant.
The limited-release edition boasts a dual 16-pin power connector capable of drawing up to 1,200 watts. Special BIOS tweaks allow extreme overclocking, pushing power consumption to an incredible 2,000 watts. Enthusiasts have set benchmark records with this model, reaching GPU frequencies of 3,650 MHz using liquid nitrogen. It holds the crown in the 3D Mark Port Royal, Uniengine Superposition, and GPUPI v3.3 benchmarks.
The premium price tag is also due to its sophisticated 38-phase VRM design, supporting a robust 12-layer PCB and featuring 32 GB of GDDR7 memory at 28 Gbps. However, this variant’s AI performance is capped at 2,375 AI TOPs, a 29.15% reduction from RTX 5090 standards, in compliance with export restrictions.
Overall, the RTX 5090D GALAX HOF OC LAB edition isn’t just a high-priced toy for overclocking aficionados; it also highlights how geopolitics can impact gamers, tech enthusiasts, and non-AI users worldwide.
