Foxconn is set to strengthen its presence in southern Taiwan with a major new headquarters project in Kaohsiung, signaling fresh momentum for the city’s fast-growing tech and business corridor.
On December 12, Foxconn signed a development agreement with the Kaohsiung city government to push forward the Y15 mixed-use development located along Kaohsiung’s MRT Yellow Line. As part of the plan, the company will invest NT$15.9 billion (about US$509 million) to construct a new flagship headquarters, adding another high-profile anchor to the area’s urban and commercial expansion.
The agreement positions the Y15 project as more than just an office build. It’s framed as a mixed-use development, which typically combines corporate space with additional functions such as retail, services, or complementary facilities that support daily work life and surrounding neighborhoods. With the site tied to a key mass transit route, the project also highlights how transit-oriented development is becoming central to Kaohsiung’s strategy for attracting investment and building modern business districts.
For Foxconn, the move underscores a longer-term commitment to expanding operations and visibility in Taiwan beyond existing footprints, while aligning with a location designed for connectivity and future growth. For Kaohsiung, landing a flagship headquarters investment of this scale supports ambitions to draw more corporate activity, strengthen local job opportunities, and accelerate development around new MRT infrastructure.
As construction plans progress under the Y15 initiative, attention will be on what facilities are included in the mixed-use layout and how the headquarters integrates into the MRT Yellow Line development zone—an area increasingly positioned as a prime destination for business, innovation, and urban renewal in southern Taiwan.
