Fitbit is piloting a new wellness tool called Unusual trends, now rolling out to select users through Fitbit Labs on Fitbit and Google Pixel Watch devices. The experimental feature scans your personal health metrics for sudden shifts that could hint at physical or emotional stress or even the onset of an illness.
Instead of comparing you to generic averages, Unusual trends learns your baseline and looks for meaningful changes in your own data. It analyzes signals such as heart rate variability, average heart rate during non-REM sleep, and nighttime respiration rate. According to Google, travel, alcohol, or a respiratory bug are among the common triggers that might nudge those numbers out of their normal range.
When the system spots an unusual pattern, you’ll get a notification prompting you to log how you’re feeling and note any symptoms. It’s designed for awareness and early insights, not diagnosis, so you should always seek medical advice from a professional if you’re concerned about your health.
Availability is limited for now. To see if you can join the test, open the Fitbit app and navigate to You > Fitbit Labs > See all. Participation requires opting in to share data for research and development. The feature is expected to work with a range of devices, including the Fitbit Charge 6 and select Google Pixel Watch models. There’s no confirmed timeline for a wider release.
With Unusual trends, Fitbit is leaning deeper into proactive health alerts—using sleep and stress-related metrics to surface early warning signs, so you can take action sooner and better understand how daily habits impact your well-being.
