Remedy Entertainment has opened pre-orders for Control Resonant, the highly anticipated sequel to 2019’s supernatural action-adventure hit Control. While the announcement has generated plenty of excitement among fans, one detail about the Digital Deluxe Edition is already causing debate.
Control Resonant is scheduled to launch on September 24, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game will return players to Remedy’s unsettling paranormal universe, this time with a story focused on Dylan Faden and a distorted, reality-bending version of Manhattan.
The controversy centers on the $69.99 Digital Deluxe Edition. On PlayStation 5, this edition includes 48 hours of early access, allowing players to begin the game two days before its official release. However, players who purchase the same edition for Xbox Series X|S or PC will reportedly not receive that early access bonus, despite paying the same price.
Remedy’s Communications Director Thomas Puha confirmed the situation when asked whether the 48-hour early access period was exclusive to PlayStation, responding with a simple “Yes.”
The Digital Deluxe Edition still includes several bonuses across platforms, such as a digital artbook, soundtrack, cosmetic items, an AWE-themed outfit, starter resources, and other in-game extras. For many players, however, the frustration is not about the rest of the content. The main issue is that PlayStation 5 buyers appear to receive extra value while Xbox and PC players pay the same amount without access to the same launch benefit.
Control Resonant was recently shown during a PlayStation State of Play presentation, where Remedy revealed a new story trailer and confirmed the release date. The footage teased a darker and more ambitious sequel, with strange supernatural forces, shifting environments, and the kind of mysterious storytelling that helped the original Control build a devoted fanbase.
As anticipation grows, the early access decision may remain a talking point among players, especially those planning to buy the Digital Deluxe Edition outside the PlayStation ecosystem. Still, Control Resonant is shaping up to be one of Remedy Entertainment’s biggest upcoming releases, promising a deeper dive into the studio’s connected supernatural world when it arrives for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on September 24, 2026.
