Control Resonant Becomes Remedy’s Fastest-Selling Game After Passing 1 Million Copies
Control Resonant has officially become a major milestone for Remedy Entertainment. The long-awaited sequel to 2019’s acclaimed Control has sold 1 million copies just three weeks after its September 24 launch, making it the fastest-selling game in Remedy’s history.
The achievement is especially meaningful for the studio. While Remedy has built a loyal following thanks to its distinctive storytelling, strange supernatural worlds, and cinematic action, its games have not always delivered blockbuster sales at launch. Control Resonant appears to be changing that trend, proving that the franchise has grown into one of the studio’s strongest properties.
A strong return for the Control universe
The original Control earned widespread praise for its mysterious setting, mind-bending world design, and inventive supernatural combat. Its mix of action, exploration, and surreal storytelling helped it become one of Remedy’s most recognizable titles and earned it a Game of the Year nomination in 2019.
Control Resonant builds on that foundation while pushing the action further. The sequel has been praised for its intense combat, faster pacing, and hack-and-slash-inspired mechanics, all while keeping the strange atmosphere and layered narrative style that Remedy fans expect. The result is a game that feels familiar but more ambitious, giving returning players a deeper dive into the universe while also attracting newcomers.
Why 1 million sales matter so much for Remedy
On paper, 1 million copies in three weeks may not seem as massive as the fastest-selling releases in the industry, especially compared to major games that can reach similar numbers within a day. But for Remedy, this is a major commercial win.
The studio has often earned critical acclaim without immediately seeing the same level of financial success. Alan Wake 2 is one of the clearest examples. Although it became one of the most celebrated games of 2023 and received major awards recognition, it took a long time to become profitable. Its limited PC storefront availability also affected its early sales momentum, especially among players who prefer buying games on the most widely used PC platforms.
That history makes Control Resonant’s fast start far more important. A strong launch gives Remedy more stability, more creative freedom, and more room to continue developing the unusual, story-driven games that have defined its reputation.
Remedy celebrates a record-breaking launch
Remedy CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon commented on the milestone, calling 1 million copies “a very strong start.” He emphasized that Control Resonant is the studio’s first self-published release of this scale and noted that it arrived during one of the most competitive release windows in recent years.
He also described the game as “unmistakably Remedy,” pointing to the bold ideas and distinctive style that fans have come to expect from the studio. The message thanked both the development team and the players who helped make the launch such a success.
A promising future for Alan Wake, Control, and Max Payne
Control Resonant’s success could have a major impact on Remedy’s future. Because the game is self-published, with Annapurna Interactive involved as a co-financing and co-production partner, strong sales may benefit Remedy more directly than some of its previous projects.
That could help support the studio’s broader connected universe, including future Control and Alan Wake projects. Fans are also still waiting for the Max Payne 1 and Max Payne 2 remakes, which were first announced in 2022. The most recent update indicated that the remakes entered full production in 2024, with a potential release expected in 2027.
For now, Control Resonant has given Remedy a powerful win. It shows that the studio’s unusual blend of supernatural storytelling, stylish action, and bold world-building can connect with a wider audience. If this momentum continues, Remedy may be entering one of the strongest chapters in its history.
