Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeny has openly criticized Apple’s behavior and referred to the tech giant as ‘devious’ and ‘malicious.’ His candid comments come amidst discussions surrounding Apple’s plans to align with the Digital Markets Act (DMA) regulations.
Apple’s approach to satisfying the DMA’s requirements includes introducing certifications for apps from external marketplaces. Additionally, the company intends to levy a “core technology fee” amounting to EUR 0.50 for every installed application once it surpasses one million downloads annually.
Despite these challenges, Sweeny remains undeterred. He took to social media to voice his concerns about Apple’s perceived strategic maneuvering but also to announce that these impediments would not prevent Epic Games from reinstating Fortnite on iOS platforms. The announcement suggests that Epic Games anticipated potential roadblocks from Apple even before declaring Fortnite’s comeback intentions.
