AMD has announced that the branch prediction optimizations, which have significantly improved gaming performance for Ryzen 9000 “Zen 5” and Ryzen 7000 CPUs, are now available in Windows 11 23H2.
Previously, these optimizations were expected to be part of Windows 11 24H2. Early performance tests showed notable gaming performance improvements with these updates. However, upgrading to a new OS version could pose challenges, especially for users who rely on their machines for more than gaming.
AMD has now confirmed that the same optimizations will be made available for Windows 11 23H2 through backporting. The update, listed as “KB5041587,” can be found under the “Optional Updates” section in the Windows Update menu. This backporting makes it easier for users to access the performance improvements without needing to upgrade to Windows 11 24H2.
Early tests indicate that Ryzen 9000 “Zen 5” and Ryzen 7000 “Zen 4” CPUs may see up to double-digit performance gains, although the extent varies between different games. While some titles show marginal improvements, the overall enhancement should provide better gaming value for these CPUs.
Additionally, the newly introduced “Admin” privileges in Windows 11 have been found to offer performance boosts in various games, benefiting both AMD and Intel chips.
