Wordy language learning app

Enhance Your Vocabulary with Wordy’s Revolutionary App While Enjoying Movies and TV Episodes

Introducing Wordy, a fresh iOS app designed to revolutionize your English learning experience! Imagine effortlessly translating and understanding unknown words while kicking back and watching your favorite movies or TV shows. That’s precisely what Wordy offers, boasting a library of over 500,000 titles, including hit series like HBO’s “The Penguin” and Disney+’s “Agatha All Along.”

Spearheaded by Sándor Bogyó, a 23-year-old indie developer from Budapest, Wordy was conceived out of his personal struggle. Often, he found himself breaking the immersion of his viewing experience to look up unfamiliar English phrases. Inspired by the Chrome extension Language Reactor, Sándor envisioned a mobile app that could provide seamless learning without constant interruptions.

Here’s how it works: When you select an episode from Wordy’s extensive library, the app’s advanced AI dives into the subtitles, extracting and analyzing each word. Employing your phone’s microphone, a custom speech recognition model synchronizes with the audio from your TV or computer, tracking your progress through the episode. This innovative approach allows the app to highlight challenging words for non-native English speakers. Encounter a new term? Simply glance at your phone for an instant translation.

Additionally, Wordy offers a comprehensive summary page for each episode. This feature presents all the words, neatly sorted by difficulty levels ranging from Beginner to Proficiency English. You also have the option to save specific words to your Library and practice them later with digital flashcards.

Wordy’s AI magic blends proprietary technology with third-party resources. The app taps into the extensive movie database, TMDB, and the highly accurate OpenSubtitles.com via their API. These integrations ensure the most reliable and precise subtitles for your learning experience.

During testing, we paired Wordy with Netflix’s hit show “Wednesday” on a laptop. The app effortlessly pinpointed complex terms like “plagued,” “nefarious,” and “seance,” offering accurate and comprehensible translations that even beginners found easy to grasp.

Currently, Wordy is exclusively available in English, but expansion plans are underway. Sándor is diligently working on adding more languages, starting with Spanish in November, and French and German soon after.

“I prioritize quality over hastiness, dedicating time to ensure each language integration meets high standards for accuracy and user delight,” Sándor remarked.

For a subscription fee of $2.99 per month or $29.99 per year, Wordy is set to become your go-to companion for immersive and intuitive English learning. And Android users, rejoice! An Android version is scheduled for a November release.

Dive into a new way of learning with Wordy, where language barriers crumble, and your favorite shows become educational treasures.
