The PlayStation 5 Pro and its ultra-exclusive 30th Anniversary Edition launched for pre-order at 10 a.m. on September 26, 2024, and it turned out to be quite the ordeal for eager fans. Sony’s PlayStation Direct website attracted a surge of buyers keen to snag the highly coveted consoles, culminating in overloaded servers and frustratingly long waiting lines. Before long, both the PS5 Pro and the anniversary edition were sold out, leaving many genuine fans empty-handed.
Unfortunately, while many enthusiasts missed out, scalpers managed to secure some of the limited anniversary versions. These opportunists are now trying to cash in on the scarcity, anticipating hefty profits. The 30th Anniversary Edition, which had a retail price of $999, started popping up on eBay with some asking prices reaching an astronomical $35,000. On average, however, the consoles are being resold for around $3,000 to $5,000.
Reflecting on my own gaming journey, it’s hard not to feel a pang of nostalgia. I fondly remember the days when my trusty Gameboy was my constant sidekick and the PlayStation sessions that followed an afternoon of studying. Once I got my first PC, there was no turning back. My love for gaming has only deepened over the years. Writing about gaming, innovative gadgets, and tech developments is not just a job; it’s a passion. When I’m not immersed in the virtual world, you’ll find me on water rescue duty at the Baltic coast or staying active at the local swimming pool to balance out those long hours spent in front of a screen.
