Dread Delusion Haunts Consoles This Spring

Publisher DreadXP and developer Lovely Hellplace are bringing their open-world retro RPG, Dread Delusion, to consoles this spring, giving more players a chance to dive into its strange, floating world of mystery, danger, and discovery.

After launching in PC early access in 2022 and reaching full release in 2024, Dread Delusion is now set to land on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. The console editions won’t be bare-bones ports, either. They’re planned to include the major additions introduced during the game’s early access run, so console players can jump in with a feature-complete experience right from the start.

Designed as a love letter to classic ’90s and 2000s-era RPGs, Dread Delusion draws inspiration from genre-defining adventures like King’s Field and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. It pairs that old-school spirit with a distinctive chunky, retro 3D look that feels nostalgic without being dated, and it leans into the kind of open-ended exploration that made those classics unforgettable.

At its core, Dread Delusion is about choice and approach. You’re not locked into a single “right” way to play. You can shape your character around your preferred style, whether that means surviving with steel and spells or taking a smarter, subtler path. Combat isn’t the only answer to conflict. Players can charm NPCs, pick locks, use knowledge others fear, and find alternative solutions that reward curiosity and roleplaying.

The game’s story and world-building are built to keep you invested, with multiple-ending quests, branching outcomes, and a steady sense that your decisions actually matter. Across its sprawling setting, you’ll uncover new locations, meet locals with their own agendas, and unravel questlines that can take unexpected turns depending on how you handle situations.

Console players can also expect content and features that broaden the journey even further, including Hard Mode for those who want a tougher challenge, airship customization to personalize your travels, and the Creature Island content that expands what there is to see and do.

With its modernized take on classic open-world RPG design, memorable retro visuals, and flexible, choice-driven gameplay, Dread Delusion is shaping up to be a must-play for fans of old-school adventure RPGs when it arrives on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2 this spring.
