Dragon Quest Smash/Grow is gearing up for a big mobile debut on April 21, bringing familiar Dragon Quest flavor with a fast, party-driven combat twist. Built around smart team play and flexible class choices, the game lets you take on the main story while also diving into multiple replayable modes designed for co-op fans and challenge seekers.
A key feature is its party system. You’ll build a team of three characters, and you can switch between them mid-battle to take advantage of different strengths. That makes vocation choice especially important, because classic Dragon Quest vocations return here with their own upgrade trees and preferred weapon types. Instead of feeling locked into one playstyle, the system encourages experimenting with multiple roles and swapping at the right moment to control fights more efficiently.
Another quality-of-life change that stands out is the way Blessings work. Rather than being restricted to individual characters, Blessings are shared across the entire party. This party-wide approach should make progression feel smoother and reduce the grind of maintaining separate setups for each character.
Beyond the campaign, Dragon Quest Smash/Grow expands the experience with several game modes aimed at long-term play. Co-op quests allow up to four players to team up, making it easier to tackle tougher content with friends. If you prefer a solo endurance challenge, Gauntlet mode offers endless waves of enemies to test how long your party can hold out. For players who like intense, focused battles, Shrine encounters center on powerful boss fights where strategy and party composition matter most.
The story kicks off with Chapter 1, titled Send ’Em Flying! Slime Invasion, setting the tone with a classic Dragon Quest-style threat that longtime fans will instantly recognize.
The project also has strong roots in the franchise’s legacy. Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii is serving as supervisor, tying the game closely to the series’ long history that began with the original Dragon Quest in 1986. Its timing is notable too, arriving during the franchise’s 40th anniversary year. Adding to the presentation, the opening trailer was produced by Kamikaze Douga, helping showcase the game’s energy right from the start.
April is shaping up to be a packed month for mobile players in general. Dragon Quest Smash/Grow isn’t the only headline release, as Wuthering Waves Version 3.3 arrives on April 30 with six crossover collaborations, 40 free pulls, and a new area to explore, all part of the game’s second anniversary celebration.
