With this in mind, it’s understandable that the latest generation SoCs, such as Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400, come with a heftier price tag compared to their predecessors.

According to these sources, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is expected to cost smartphone manufacturers approximately $190. This figure is notably lower than previous estimates from earlier this month. If these numbers are accurate, Qualcomm may be pricing its latest SoC $10 less than what smartphone makers were paying for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which reportedly costs around $200.
However, there’s reason to question this pricing data. Given the notably high costs associated with the TSMC N3 process node and the sophisticated Oryon cores utilized in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, the relatively modest price increase seems somewhat counterintuitive. Qualcomm remains tight-lipped about the actual production costs, leaving the industry to speculate until devices featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 hit the market.
On the other hand, the pricing story for MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 9400 seems more favorable for manufacturers. The leaker suggests that this much-anticipated chip will be priced at around $155. Coupled with promises of robust performance, the cost advantage over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 could lead to broader adoption, surpassing the uptake seen with the Dimensity 9300.
Early adopters of the Dimensity 9400 are expected to be prominent brands like Vivo and Oppo, with their respective models, the Vivo X200 Pro and Oppo Find X8, likely to feature the new chip. There’s even speculation that Samsung might integrate the Dimensity 9400 into its Galaxy S25, potentially weakening Qualcomm’s hold on the flagship Android market if this comes to pass.
