Delta Force Shatters Its Steam Record, Surging Past 213,000 Concurrent Players

Delta Force just set a new personal best on Steam, hitting an all-time high of 213,519 concurrent players on September 6, 2025, according to SteamDB. The milestone edges past the shooter’s previous peak of 210,413 recorded in August, continuing a month-over-month rise that’s been building since launch.

Developed by Team Jade and TiMi Studio Group, the free-to-play FPS arrived on December 5, 2024, and has steadily climbed the Steam charts thanks to a growing player community and expanding platform support. The recent rollout on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on August 19, 2025, helped fuel a broader surge, bringing fresh console players into the mix and boosting visibility across regions.

What makes this new high-water mark notable is that it wasn’t driven by a major content drop. The previous peak followed the launch of Season 5 on July 10, but the latest record came during regular live-service cadence, pointing to organic momentum and stronger word-of-mouth. A region-specific version in China and the game’s blend of large-scale PvP firefights with extraction shooter elements have also broadened its appeal. The campaign nods to a 2001 war film, tapping into military-shooter nostalgia while delivering modern systems and modes.

Delta Force is also stepping into esports. The first Invitational in China runs from September 19 to 21, 2025, featuring 12 teams from eight regions and a $500,000 prize pool. It’s an early but meaningful push toward competitive play that could help sustain long-term engagement if tournament support and balance updates keep pace.

Not everything is smooth sailing. Players continue to report AI-filled servers, cheating issues, and concerns around monetization. As a free-to-play live service, the game leans on cosmetic microtransactions across its cross-platform ecosystem. Strong anti-cheat measures, better matchmaking, and clear value in cosmetic offerings will be crucial to keeping the community satisfied as the player base grows.

The franchise’s legacy adds another layer to its resurgence. The original Delta Force, developed and published by NovaLogic in October 1998, was celebrated for expansive maps and atmosphere, powered by the Voxel Space engine that enabled unprecedented draw distances for its time. While praised for mission design and audio, it drew criticism for lighter realism compared to some contemporaries. Multiplayer supported LAN and online play for up to 32 players, plus co-op that replaced NPC operators.

Ownership of the IP shifted from NovaLogic to THQ Nordic in October 2016, and in August 2023 Tencent acquired the rights and announced a modern reboot. That reboot has now found traction with a new generation of players, buoyed by cross-platform rollout and steady live updates.

If the developers can keep cracking down on cheaters, improve server quality, and maintain a fair, rewarding cosmetic economy, Delta Force is positioned to continue breaking records. With a thriving community, console momentum, and an esports debut on the calendar, the tactical shooter’s second act is gaining real firepower.
