Crimson Desert has only been out since the third week of March, yet it’s already a certified hit. The game has reportedly crossed four million copies sold, and players have collectively poured thousands of hours into exploring its world. Plenty of gamers have finished the story, but earning the coveted “Platinum” remains a rare achievement. Still, among those who’ve reached the credits, one complaint keeps surfacing: once you complete the campaign, there isn’t enough meaningful content to keep you engaged.
Pearl Abyss is now preparing an update roadmap that aims to tackle that exact issue. In a detailed developer post, the studio outlined what’s being worked on for Crimson Desert between now and June, noting that these upcoming additions are driven by player feedback and currently in development.
The headline changes are designed to give players more reasons to return after finishing the main story. Pearl Abyss says Crimson Desert will be getting boss rematches, re-blockading, and selectable difficulty settings.
Boss rematches are exactly what they sound like: a way to fight enemies you’ve already defeated. For many players, that’s a huge win because it turns some of the game’s best encounters into repeatable content. It also gives combat-focused players a reason to keep honing builds, testing strategies, and mastering weapon mechanics without needing to start from scratch.
Re-blockading aims to bring life back into the world after you’ve pushed through major conflict zones. The idea is that enemies will attempt to reclaim locations you previously liberated, creating fresh opportunities to retake territory. It’s a smart way to make the world feel less “finished” after the campaign, while also letting players approach the same areas with new tactics and more experience than they had the first time.
Pearl Abyss hasn’t confirmed whether re-blockading will remain active indefinitely after you complete the story, but boss rematches seem like the kind of feature that naturally works as ongoing endgame content. Exactly how these systems will be implemented—and how often they’ll occur—will be something to watch as updates roll out.
Another highly requested addition is difficulty selection. Players will be able to choose between easy, normal, and hard modes, allowing the game to feel more accessible to newcomers while also giving experienced players a way to crank up the challenge. For those who already beat the story, this also opens the door to a second playthrough that feels meaningfully different, especially if paired with new combat approaches.
Beyond these big post-game focused changes, Pearl Abyss also plans several quality-of-life improvements and additional content. Damiane and Oongka are set to receive new skills and abilities intended to bring them closer to Kliff’s “Force Palm” and “Axiom Force,” which should help these characters feel more capable and fun to use.
Players can also expect new outfits, more summonable mounts and pets, and storage improvements that should make inventory management less of a chore. These smaller upgrades may not grab headlines, but they often make the biggest day-to-day difference for regular players.
On the visual side, the studio is also working to make distant environments and backgrounds look more realistic—an enhancement that should make the massive landscapes feel even more convincing when you’re seeing them from towers, ridgelines, and mountain peaks. Pearl Abyss notes that this will likely arrive as a larger patch due to size.
There’s no exact release date yet for the next update, but given how quickly updates have been arriving since launch, players may not have to wait long before the first wave of new features begins to land. If Pearl Abyss delivers on boss rematches and re-blockading the way fans hope, Crimson Desert could soon feel much more rewarding even after the main story ends.
