Crimson Desert Multiplayer Mode and Switch 2 Version Are Under Review at Pearl Abyss
Pearl Abyss is continuing to refine Crimson Desert after its March release, and the studio appears to be looking ahead to some major possibilities for the open-world action game. Following a strong launch and a steady stream of updates, the developer has now shared new details about two highly requested topics: a potential multiplayer mode and a version for Nintendo Switch 2.
During a recent shareholder briefing, Pearl Abyss executives Heo Jin-young, Lee Dong-won, and Cho Mi-young discussed the future of Crimson Desert and the work currently being done behind the scenes. When asked about multiplayer support, CEO Heo Jin-young explained that the studio is studying both the technical feasibility and the gameplay design needed to make such a feature work properly.
While Crimson Desert was originally designed as a single-player open-world experience, Pearl Abyss now appears open to the idea of expanding the game through multiplayer. Heo noted that there could be room for multiplayer elements if they can strengthen the overall experience and help the game grow over time.
However, adding multiplayer to Crimson Desert would not be a simple update. According to the company, the process would require a deep review of server infrastructure, combat balance, platform stability, and long-term operational systems. In other words, Pearl Abyss is not simply looking at whether multiplayer can be added, but whether it can be added in a way that feels polished, stable, and meaningful for players.
This is encouraging news for fans who have been hoping to explore Crimson Desert’s vast world with friends. Even though the studio has not confirmed that multiplayer is officially in development, the fact that it is being actively evaluated suggests that Pearl Abyss is considering the game’s long-term future beyond its original launch plans.
The company also offered an update on the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Crimson Desert. According to Pearl Abyss, a build of the game running on the handheld platform already exists, but it still needs further optimization before it can move toward technical verification.
The studio’s goal is to preserve the core Crimson Desert experience on Switch 2, including its visual quality, open-world exploration, and fast-paced action combat. That could be a challenging task, especially for a game known for its detailed environments and cinematic presentation. Earlier this year, Pearl Abyss began research and development for the Switch 2 version and acknowledged that some compromises might be necessary due to hardware limitations.
For now, it remains unclear how much the Switch 2 edition may differ from other versions of the game. Pearl Abyss has not provided specific details about resolution, frame rate, graphical settings, or possible feature adjustments. Still, the existence of a working version is a positive sign for players hoping to experience Crimson Desert on Nintendo’s next-generation handheld system.
At the moment, there is no confirmed release window for either the multiplayer update or the Switch 2 port. Pearl Abyss appears to be taking a careful approach, focusing on optimization, stability, and content expansion rather than rushing new features out before they are ready.
Crimson Desert has already gained attention for its large open world, intense combat, and cinematic storytelling. If Pearl Abyss can successfully introduce multiplayer and bring the game to Switch 2 without sacrificing its core identity, the title could reach an even larger audience in the future.
For now, fans will have to wait for more official updates, but the latest comments from Pearl Abyss make one thing clear: the studio is still actively investing in Crimson Desert and exploring ways to expand the game across new features and platforms.
