Claude Stumbles Again as Widespread Model Errors Disrupt Service

Claude Outage Hits Multiple Models as Anthropic Investigates Rising Error Rates

Anthropic is investigating a fresh Claude outage after users reported elevated error rates across several of the company’s AI models on August 24. The disruption affected key services including Claude, the Claude API, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork, adding to a growing list of reliability issues the platform has faced throughout August.

According to Anthropic’s service status update, the incident began at 05:06 UTC. The company said it was looking into errors impacting Claude Mythos 5, Claude Fable 5, Claude Opus 5, and Claude Opus 4.8. At the time of the report, multiple Claude services were listed as experiencing partial outages.

User reports also appeared to spike around the same time, with outage-tracking data showing a noticeable rise in complaints near 4:55 a.m. UTC. Many users said their Claude workflows were interrupted, particularly those relying on Claude Code for longer-running development tasks. One user reported that a nine-hour coding process had been disrupted because of the service issue.

This latest Claude outage follows several other incidents recorded earlier in August. Anthropic reported degraded performance across multiple models on August 20, while August 19 brought additional problems affecting Opus 5 and Haiku 4.5. A larger disruption on August 18 also impacted several models, with Opus 5 reportedly affected for a longer period than others.

The company’s status history shows further service disruptions on August 16, August 14, August 7, and August 6. The August 6 incident was marked as a major outage. Many of these events affected Claude.ai, the API, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and the developer console, making August a notably unstable month for users who depend on Claude for writing, coding, automation, and business workflows.

Claude has become an important tool for developers, researchers, writers, and companies building AI-powered products, so even partial outages can have a wide impact. Problems with Claude Code and the Claude API are especially disruptive for users who integrate Anthropic’s models into daily work, apps, or automated systems.

Anthropic has not yet provided a detailed explanation for the August 24 outage. The company is currently investigating the issue, and affected users are waiting for confirmation that services have fully returned to normal.

More information is expected once Anthropic shares an update or confirms that the Claude outage has been resolved.
