Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are coming to modern PlayStation platforms
Treyarch has confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 are being ported to newer PlayStation hardware, giving fans a fresh chance to revisit two of the most popular entries in the Black Ops series.
The upcoming PlayStation ports are being developed by Iron Galaxy Studios and are currently planned for release sometime in July. Treyarch has not yet confirmed whether the games will arrive on PS4, PS5, or both platforms, so players will need to wait for more details as the launch window gets closer.
Originally released in 2010 and 2012, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 became standout titles in the franchise thanks to their memorable campaigns, fast-paced multiplayer, and fan-favorite Zombies modes. Both games launched on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, but they have not been officially playable on PS4 or PS5.
That has made the situation frustrating for PlayStation players, especially since the games can already be played on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S through backwards compatibility, as well as on PC. These new ports should finally give PlayStation users a more convenient way to experience the classic Black Ops titles without relying on older hardware.
For longtime Call of Duty fans, the return of Black Ops and Black Ops 2 could be a major nostalgic moment. Black Ops is remembered for its Cold War-era storyline and iconic characters, while Black Ops 2 pushed the series forward with a branching campaign and a near-future setting that helped make it one of the most talked-about Call of Duty releases of its time.
With a July release window now on the table, more information is expected soon, including platform availability, pricing, performance details, and whether the ports will include multiplayer and Zombies features exactly as fans remember them.
