Citizen has introduced two new additions to its Promaster Sky Navihawk lineup in Europe, and this time the brand is taking the collection in a more traditional direction. The new Citizen NK0040-58L and Citizen NK0044-57E move away from the Eco-Drive technology commonly associated with the Navihawk name and instead arrive with a mechanical automatic movement.
The two models are priced at €599 each in Europe. The Citizen NK0040-58L features a blue dial, while the Citizen NK0044-57E comes with a black dial. Both watches share the same core design, specifications, and aviation-inspired functionality.
What makes these new Promaster Sky Navihawk watches especially interesting is the movement inside. Citizen is best known in this category for solar-powered Eco-Drive models, often paired with practical features such as radio-controlled timekeeping. With these releases, Citizen has stripped things back and chosen a mechanical heart instead.
Powering both watches is the Citizen Caliber 8314, a new automatic movement with 21 jewels and a 60-hour power reserve. The movement is rated for accuracy between -20 and +40 seconds per day. While that may not match the precision of Citizen’s more advanced quartz and radio-controlled models, it gives the new Navihawk automatics a different kind of appeal for watch enthusiasts who prefer mechanical timepieces.
The case and bracelet are made from Citizen’s Super Titanium, a hardened titanium material designed to be lighter and more resistant to scratches than standard stainless steel. The watch measures 40 mm in diameter and 13.3 mm thick, with an overall weight of around 100 g. That makes it relatively lightweight for a full-metal sports watch, although the case thickness is slightly higher than some of Citizen’s other automatic watches in a similar size range.
The extra thickness is largely due to one of the Navihawk’s signature features: the slide-rule bezel. This aviation-focused bezel includes scales for fuel, distance, and unit conversions, giving the watch a cockpit-instrument character that has long been part of the Navihawk identity. It is a practical and visually distinctive detail that separates these models from more conventional automatic sports watches.
Both dials combine Arabic numerals with slim stick indices for a clean but functional look. A date window sits at 3 o’clock, keeping the layout practical for daily wear. The watches also feature sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, improving durability and legibility. A screw-down case back adds to the robust construction, while water resistance is rated at 20 bar, making the watches suitable for swimming and more demanding everyday use.
The titanium bracelet uses a 20 mm lug width and is fitted with a double safety folding clasp. Combined with the lightweight Super Titanium construction, the bracelet should help make the watch comfortable despite its tool-watch build and slightly thicker case.
Availability currently appears to vary by market. The blue Citizen NK0040-58L has appeared in Europe with limited availability, while some retailers list a waiting period of around two to four weeks. At €599, the new Promaster Sky Navihawk automatics are positioned at approximately $682 before regional pricing differences.
With these two releases, Citizen is giving the Promaster Sky Navihawk family a fresh mechanical twist. The combination of a 60-hour automatic movement, Super Titanium construction, sapphire crystal, 20 bar water resistance, and an aviation-style slide-rule bezel makes the NK0040-58L and NK0044-57E appealing options for buyers who want a lightweight titanium automatic watch with a strong pilot-watch personality.
