Citizen’s Kei Automatics Go Global With Friendlier Prices and a New Limited Edition

Citizen Kei Automatic Watches Launch Internationally With Lower Prices and New Dial Options

Citizen is bringing its Kei automatic watch collection to markets outside Japan, giving more buyers access to the compact mechanical lineup at a noticeably lower price. The international release includes six standard models, while European listings also show a pink limited-edition version.

The new global Citizen Kei automatic range keeps the same core specifications as the Japanese NK0050 series. Each model features a 38 mm case, a slim 10.9 mm profile, a flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and an exhibition caseback. Inside is Citizen’s automatic caliber 8310, which runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour, uses 21 jewels, and offers a 60-hour power reserve.

The six international references include the white NK0051-51B, black NK0051-51F, grey NK0051-51J, blue NK0051-51M, green NK0051-51W, and the two-tone NK0055-51Q. The two-tone version stands out with a white dial, gold-tone bezel, and matching crown. In Europe, Citizen also lists the pink NK0051-60Y as a Kei Limited Edition.

One of the most notable additions in the export lineup is the green dial model, which is not part of the Japanese release. That gives international buyers an exclusive color option and could make the green NK0051-51W one of the more sought-after versions in the range.

The watches also retain practical everyday features. They offer 5 bar water resistance, luminous hands and indexes, and a stainless steel bracelet with a 19 mm width and three-fold push-button clasp. The combination of a compact case size, sapphire crystal, mechanical movement, and 60-hour power reserve makes the Kei range a strong option for buyers looking for an affordable automatic watch with modern specifications.

There is one key difference between the Japanese and international versions. The export models have casebacks marked “Japan Movt,” while the Japanese models are marked “Made in Japan.” This distinction also carries over to the dial, making the global release slightly different in presentation from the domestic Japanese lineup.

Pricing may be the biggest surprise. In Spain, Citizen lists the five stainless steel models at 329 euros, while the two-tone model is priced at 349 euros. Once the country’s 21% VAT is removed, that works out to roughly $304 for the steel versions and about $322 for the two-tone model.

By comparison, the Japanese models are priced at 68,200 yen and 70,400 yen including tax, or around $394 and $407 before Japan’s 10% consumption tax. That means the international Citizen Kei automatic models are roughly 23% cheaper than their Japanese-market counterparts before tax.

Citizen has not yet confirmed pricing or availability for the United States. For comparison, the 37 mm Tsuyosa 60, which uses the same caliber 8310 movement, is sold in the US at $595.

With its compact sizing, reliable automatic movement, sapphire crystal, long power reserve, and lower international pricing, the Citizen Kei automatic lineup could become one of the brand’s most appealing mechanical watch releases for buyers seeking value and everyday wearability.
