Citizen is tapping into peak ’80s tech nostalgia by reviving one of its most wonderfully over-the-top watches: the Ana-Digi Temp. For 2026, the brand is releasing two fresh limited-edition versions under the Citizen Record Label Playground Edition name, and they keep everything that made the original a cult favorite—analog hands, digital displays, and even a built-in thermometer—while adding loud, playful colors that feel made for collectors. Each version is capped at just 500 units, making them a true blink-and-you’ll-miss-it release.
Back when digital features were the headline and “more functions” meant “more futuristic,” the Ana-Digi Temp stood out by cramming an impressive amount of information into a single wristwatch. That same cockpit-instrument vibe is still the main attraction here: multiple analog sub-dials, LCD screens for extra data, and the signature Thermo Sensor that gives the line its name. Citizen didn’t try to modernize the personality out of it, and that’s exactly why these reissues work—the whole point is that they’re proudly quirky.
The flashiest of the pair is the Citizen Record Label Playground Edition JG2170-59Y. It arrives with a bright yellow dial and round sub-dials, and it leans hard into the classic Ana-Digi Temp identity, with the temperature sensor and branding clearly displayed beneath the digital screen. It’s the kind of watch that looks like it belongs in an arcade, a science museum gift shop, and an ’80s sci-fi set all at once—in the best way.
If you prefer your retro-futurism a little cooler, the JG2120-73L delivers with an aqua blue dial and square sub-dials. This model comes in a slightly larger 33.4mm case and takes a cleaner approach on the front, skipping the vintage-style logo and blending the temperature sensor into the dial design. It also differs in build details: the blue version uses a separate bezel, which adds a bit of thickness (9.7mm compared to the yellow model’s 8mm), and the stainless steel band includes decorative holes that make it feel even more “tool watch from the future.”
One of the standout upgrades on both watches is the luminous dial treatment. After soaking up ambient light, the bold, pop-colored faces glow softly in the dark with a steady, continuous shine—an eye-catching trick that fits perfectly with the Playground Edition theme and adds serious nighttime personality.
Inside, Citizen sticks with the dependable quartz Caliber 8989, rated for about two years of battery life. It supports a surprisingly deep feature set for a watch that’s also serving strong style points: dual time, a 1/1000-second chronograph, daily alarms, a perpetual calendar, and of course the Ana-Digi Temp’s signature temperature sensor.
Both limited editions will be sold exclusively in Japan, with availability starting March 12 through Citizen’s online store and official retail channels. Pricing is set at ¥36,300 (about $232) for the yellow JG2170-59Y and ¥40,700 (about $261) for the blue JG2120-73L.
For anyone who loves vintage-inspired watches, retro digital hybrids, or just wants something that feels like a wearable throwback to the gadget-obsessed era, these 2026 Citizen Ana-Digi Temp limited editions deliver a rare mix: real function, real nostalgia, and a design that refuses to be boring.
