New The Witcher Free-to-Play Co-Op RPG Rumored for PC and Mobile
A new free-to-play co-op action RPG set in The Witcher universe may be in development for PC and mobile devices, according to a recent report. While the game has not been officially announced, the details suggest an ambitious spin-off that could give fans something the series has never offered before: the ability to create their own witcher.
The rumored game is said to take place in the year 1230, during the period when Geralt of Rivia was still a young witcher. Instead of stepping directly into Geralt’s boots, players would reportedly build a custom witcher from the ground up, with options to choose gender, appearance, and possibly other character-defining traits.
If accurate, this would mark a major shift for The Witcher franchise. The mainline games have always centered on established characters, especially Geralt, while this new project could move closer to a personalized RPG experience built around player choice and co-op gameplay.
Gameplay reportedly focuses on monster-hunting missions across familiar Witcher-style locations, including dark forests, busy villages, and ancient ruins filled with danger. Players would take on contracts, track terrifying creatures, and battle enemies using a combat system designed around timing, strategy, and skill.
The combat is said to include blocks, dodges, parries, and executions, rewarding players who master precise movement and attack windows. Character progression may also allow players to draw abilities from different Witcher schools, giving them room to shape their fighting style. Signs, potions, and other classic witcher tools are expected to play an important role, making preparation just as important as reflexes.
The project sounds similar in some ways to the previously announced multiplayer Witcher game known as Project Sirius, which is being developed by The Molasses Flood, a studio acquired by CD Projekt RED in 2021. However, there is one key difference: the rumored free-to-play title is reportedly planned only for PC and mobile, with no console version mentioned. That detail has led to speculation that this could be a separate Witcher project rather than Project Sirius, which was reportedly reworked in 2023.
Another possibility is that the game could be tied to CD Projekt RED’s partnership with Scopely, a company known for major mobile and live-service releases. If true, this would suggest CD Projekt RED is taking another serious attempt at bringing The Witcher to a broader mobile audience while also keeping PC players involved.
This would not be the franchise’s first move into mobile gaming. Previous Witcher-related mobile releases included The Witcher: Monster Slayer, an augmented reality monster-hunting game that was later shut down, along with Roach Race, GWENT, and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales ports. While these titles had their fans, none became a long-term breakout hit on mobile.
A free-to-play co-op Witcher RPG could be a much bigger play, especially if it combines character creation, online missions, and the series’ deep monster-hunting fantasy. The idea of teaming up with friends to hunt beasts, brew potions, master Signs, and explore a dangerous Continent could attract both longtime fans and newcomers.
For now, the information should be treated as unconfirmed until CD Projekt RED makes an official announcement. Still, the concept is easy to imagine as part of the studio’s expanding plans for The Witcher universe.
Meanwhile, The Witcher franchise remains very active. Development on The Witcher 4 is continuing, and The Witcher 3’s Songs of the Past expansion is expected next year. If this rumored PC and mobile co-op RPG is real, fans may have even more monster-slaying adventures to look forward to in the years ahead.
