Casio’s Sapphire-Ready Mudmaster and Frogman Finally Hit the US with Serious Upgrades

Casio Frogman GWFD1000BC-1 and Mudmaster GWGB1000-1A3 arrive in the US with premium pricing

Casio has officially brought its latest tan-accented Master of G models to the United States, giving G-Shock fans two rugged new options: the Frogman GWFD1000BC-1 and the Mudmaster GWGB1000-1A3. Both watches first appeared in Japan in September and are now available through Casio’s US store with October “New” labeling.

The US pricing, however, may raise eyebrows. The Casio Frogman GWFD1000BC-1 is listed at $1,500, while the Casio Mudmaster GWGB1000-1A3 comes in at $880. Compared with Japanese pricing, American buyers are paying noticeably more. In Japan, the Frogman is priced at 198,000 yen and the Mudmaster at 132,000 yen, including Japan’s 10 percent consumption tax. Once that tax is removed, the prices convert to roughly $1,137 for the Frogman and $758 for the Mudmaster.

That means the US Frogman costs about $363 more than its Japanese pre-tax equivalent, a difference of around 32 percent. The Mudmaster carries a smaller but still significant increase of about $122, or roughly 16 percent. Since US prices do not include local sales tax, the final checkout cost can be even higher depending on the buyer’s location.

One of the more surprising differences between the two watches is connectivity. Despite being the more affordable model, the $880 Mudmaster includes Bluetooth support and works with the Casio Watches app. The $1,500 Frogman does not include Bluetooth and instead relies on Multi Band 6 radio time calibration.

The Mudmaster GWGB1000-1A3 is built for land-based adventure and field use. It features Casio’s Triple Sensor system, offering a digital compass, barometer, altimeter, and thermometer. The case measures 58.7 x 52.1 x 16.2 mm and weighs 114 g. Casio uses a mix of bio-based resin and steel, reinforced by its Carbon Core Guard structure. The design includes a black ion-plated bezel, DLC-treated steel parts, and a matte olive green band that matches the rugged outdoor look.

The Frogman GWFD1000BC-1 is aimed squarely at divers. It is a digital-only G-Shock with a larger and heavier build, measuring 59.2 x 53.3 x 18 mm and weighing 181 g. It uses a steel case and carries ISO-rated 200 m diving certification. Its dive-focused tools include an 80 m depth gauge, storage for 20 dive logs, an ascent rate alarm, and a tide graph. Casio also equips it with a composite steel and resin bracelet that can extend in two steps, making it easier to wear over a wetsuit.

Both watches come with Tough Solar charging, sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and an accuracy rating of plus or minus 15 seconds per month when not receiving a radio signal. These are premium Master of G models designed for harsh conditions, but they serve very different users.

For buyers choosing between them, the decision largely comes down to purpose. The Mudmaster GWGB1000-1A3 offers more everyday utility, Bluetooth connectivity, outdoor sensors, and a lower price. The Frogman GWFD1000BC-1 commands a much higher price, but its value makes the most sense for serious diving use. If the dive features matter, the Frogman has a clear role. If not, the Mudmaster may be the more practical and better-equipped choice for most G-Shock fans.
