Casio has officially revealed two new additions to its Vintage lineup: the A159WEVJ-2 and A159WEVJ-7. After earlier rumors, the watches are now listed as real products with an April 2026 release window, and they arrive with a design twist that leans heavily into classic Japanese aesthetics.
The big change is the dial. Both models feature a Seigaiha wave pattern, a traditional Japanese motif made of repeating arcs that resembles rolling seas. On the A159WEVJ-2, Casio uses a deep indigo-blue tone that looks bold and saturated, while the A159WEVJ-7 goes for a more understated silver-grey finish. Casio notes that the dial combines printed detailing with vapor deposition, a process that can add a subtle, shimmering depth when light hits the surface. In other words, these are still unmistakably A159 watches, but with a dressier, more premium-looking face.
Beyond the visuals, the specs remain familiar, which will be good news for anyone who loves the original A159’s simple, lightweight formula. The case measures 36.8 × 33.2 × 8.5 mm and weighs about 45 grams. It keeps the resin case with chrome plating and pairs it with a stainless-steel bracelet for that classic retro digital look.
Functionality is unchanged as well. You still get a 1/100-second stopwatch, daily alarm, hourly time signal, auto calendar, and an LED backlight for low-light visibility. Battery life is rated at around seven years using a CR2016 battery. Water resistance remains basic, in line with the standard A159 approach, making it more of an everyday watch than a swim-ready option.
Casio adds a few thematic touches that make these editions feel more collectible. The caseback is said to feature “Casio” in both English and katakana, and the packaging carries the same wave motif found on the dial. Another standout detail is manufacturing: Casio states these models are made in Japan at its Yamagata facility, which typically adds extra appeal for collectors who pay attention to origin and finishing.
Pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the upgraded design, Japan-made note, special caseback styling, and thematic packaging suggest these could cost more than standard A159 variants with identical specs. Expectations have floated around the $100 range, though that remains unconfirmed until Casio shares official numbers. What is confirmed is availability: both the A159WEVJ-2 and A159WEVJ-7 are expected to go on sale in April 2026.
