Casio Unveils an Ultra-Luxury MR-G G-Shock Inspired by a Centuries-Old Japanese Pagoda

Casio is starting 2026 with a clear message: after refreshing its more affordable G-Shock lineup, it’s now putting the spotlight back on pure, ultra-premium craftsmanship. The brand has officially introduced the G-Shock MRG-B2100D-2AJR, a luxury MR-G model that blends traditional Japanese inspiration with the toughest, most feature-packed tech G-Shock is known for.

A luxury G-Shock inspired by a centuries-old Japanese pagoda

The design story behind the MRG-B2100D-2AJR traces back to the Hagurosan Gojunoto, a five-story pagoda recognized as the oldest of its kind in Japan’s Tohoku region and honored as a national treasure. Casio channels that heritage into the watch’s standout indigo-blue dial, finished in hanadai-iro, a traditional shade historically associated with samurai armor.

Casio says the dial is meant to evoke the pagoda at dawn, when it’s wrapped in morning mist. The color is applied using a vapor deposition process, which creates a tone that subtly shifts with the angle of the light—an intentional nod to the changing feeling of time from sunrise onward.

Complex metal construction that defines the MR-G tier

While many watches rely on a single-piece bezel, this MR-G goes in the opposite direction for precision finishing and depth. The bezel is built from 27 individual components, and even the “dimple” details along the bracelet are formed from separate parts. Each piece is hand-polished by skilled artisans to achieve a clean, distortion-free mirror finish—one of the key reasons MR-G sits at the top of the G-Shock family.

The dial structure also carries a traditional influence. Casio describes it as inspired by Kigumi, a classic Japanese woodworking technique. That influence appears as wave-like irregularities and tiny openings in the dial—functional details that allow light to reach the solar cells underneath for charging. This level of fine execution is made possible through micro-machining technology developed at Yamagata Casio.

Premium materials: Cobarion bezel and titanium durability

Casio pairs the artistic design with high-end materials chosen for strength and long-term wear. The top bezel is made from Cobarion, a high-hardness alloy with a platinum-like shine that Casio says is about four times harder than pure titanium. The bracelet is crafted from DAT55G titanium alloy for extra toughness, while the case, case back, buttons, and crown use titanium as well.

Despite all the refinement, the watch still targets true G-Shock durability. Casio’s Multi-Guard Structure and internal buffering help ensure strong shock resistance, keeping the MR-G’s luxury build aligned with the rugged reputation the lineup is built on.

Modern features: Bluetooth, radio time sync, solar charging, and 200m water resistance

Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating
