Casio Throws a G-Shock Rave 1,375 Feet Beneath the Surface

Casio is giving the new G-Shock Mudman GDG-B100 a launch worthy of its rugged reputation, taking the watch far below the surface for an unusual underground music event inside a Welsh slate mine.

On 15 October 2026, a select group of guests will travel deep into Cwmorthin Slate Mine in Eryri, North Wales, for a one-of-a-kind performance by legendary drum-and-bass producer Roni Size. The event is expected to take place around 1,375 feet, or approximately 419 metres, underground, making it far more dramatic than a typical product launch.

Instead of bright showroom lights and polished display stands, attendees will make their way through dark mine tunnels, wet passages and underground ravines. The journey is set to include zip lines and abseiling, matching the tough, adventure-focused image of the G-Shock Mudman range.

The most striking part of the launch is the way the mine itself will become part of the performance. Casio says elements of Roni Size’s set will be sent through the surrounding slate, while specialist equipment records vibrations moving through the rock, mud and water. Those captured sounds will then be worked back into the music, turning the underground landscape into a living instrument.

Casio is also aiming for independent recognition for what it describes as the world’s deepest underground rave. The attempt has not yet taken place, so official confirmation is still pending.

For those unable to attend in person, the performance is scheduled to be broadcast through G-Shock Radio on 15 October, with the full set expected to be made available later. Public entries for a chance to attend closed on 9 October.

The event celebrates the arrival of the Casio G-Shock Mudman GDG-B100, a rugged digital watch built for outdoor use, demanding environments and active lifestyles. The new model features a Memory-in-Pixel LCD for improved readability, a red LED backlight, Bluetooth smartphone connectivity and step tracking.

Fitness-focused functions include pace, distance and calories burned, giving the GDG-B100 more everyday training appeal alongside its traditional toughness. As expected from the Mudman line, the watch is designed to resist shock, dust and mud, while also offering 200-metre water resistance.

According to Casio’s specifications, the G-Shock Mudman GDG-B100 measures 63.6 × 49.6 × 16.2 mm and weighs 66 g. It runs on a CR2032 battery with an estimated battery life of around two years.

Although the underground rave is a special launch experience for selected guests, the GDG-B100 itself is not exclusive to the event. With its blend of durable construction, Bluetooth features, activity tracking and distinctive G-Shock styling, the new Mudman is positioned as a tough companion for adventurers, fitness users and collectors alike.
