Canon’s recent unveiling of the PowerShot V1 stirred up mixed reactions. While videographers, social media enthusiasts, and casual photographers appreciate its compact size, powerful features, and wide-angle lens, there are some drawbacks. Enthusiasts focused on photography aren’t impressed by its ergonomics, controls, and the absence of an Electronic Viewfinder (EVF).
However, fresh leaks suggest Canon is developing a new PowerShot G-series camera to address these concerns. Although details remain scarce, it’s speculated that the upcoming model will retain the 22 MP, 1.4-inch sensor from the PowerShot V1, alongside advanced AI and autofocus technology. The redesigned interface is likely to have more physical buttons and dials, and the inclusion of an EVF seems probable. Additionally, Canon might skip the built-in ND filter in favor of a zoom lens reminiscent of the 24–100 mm equivalent lens found in the popular PowerShot G7X III.
While specifics are limited, the new camera is rumored to launch before the end of 2025, with more information expected soon. Given that the PowerShot V1 is priced at $979, it’s reasonable to anticipate a similar price tag of around $1,000 for this new model.
