Threads Closing in on X’s Daily App User Count, Latest Data Reveals

Instagram Threads is steadily catching up to its major rival, X, in mobile app users, highlighting an exciting battle in the digital space. According to recent data, Threads’ mobile app for iOS and Android boasted 115.1 million daily active users as of June 2025, showing a year-over-year growth of 127.8%. In contrast, X, with 132 million daily actives, saw its growth decline by 15.2%.

Meanwhile, decentralized social network Bluesky has witnessed an impressive 372.5% growth year-over-year, albeit with only 4.1 million daily active users worldwide. Bluesky, despite having over 37 million registered users, initially saw growth post-U.S. presidential elections as users protested against X’s leadership. However, complaints about its echo chamber environment might drive users back to Threads.

The real contest is shaping up between Threads and X. Threads has the potential to grab more ad revenue by becoming a stronger mobile competitor. However, X continues to have a significant edge on web traffic, with 145.8 million average daily web visits, compared to Threads’ 6.9 million.

In terms of web traffic, Threads is slightly ahead of Bluesky, which has 5.3 million average daily visits. This may indicate Bluesky’s appeal to casual users who aren’t fully engaged yet. Threads has prioritized its mobile app, driving more traction since its inception.

In the U.S., there’s a slightly different picture. Bluesky outperformed Threads in web visits, with 2.4 million compared to Threads’ 985,200, though X still leads with 33.1 million visits. On mobile, Threads sees 15.3 million daily active users in the U.S., closely trailing X’s 22.9 million.

Bluesky’s future lies in its commitment to an open social ecosystem. Users joining simply due to dissatisfaction with X might not stay if their needs aren’t met, likely flocking back to X or switching to Threads. However, those attracted to Bluesky’s technological innovations may stick around to see its evolution.

Currently, Threads has 350 million monthly active users, according to Meta’s latest reports. Although X, being private, doesn’t publicly share metrics anymore, it was claimed to have 600 million monthly active users last year by its leadership.
