Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra could bring a major camera upgrade and smarter internal design

Samsung may be preparing one of its most meaningful Ultra upgrades in years with the Galaxy S27 Ultra. While design changes often grab the most attention, the bigger story could be happening inside the camera system. Early information suggests Samsung is finally ready to refresh camera hardware that has remained largely familiar across several generations.

One of the biggest expected changes involves the 3x telephoto camera. The current setup, which relies on a relatively small 10-megapixel sensor, has started to feel dated compared to the rapid improvements seen in smartphone photography. By 2027, Samsung may move away from this older telephoto hardware and adopt a more flexible approach for mid-range zoom.

This change could do more than improve image quality. Removing or redesigning the older 3x telephoto module may help free up valuable internal space. That extra room could be used for a larger battery, better component placement, or improved wireless charging hardware. There is also speculation that Samsung could make space for magnets around the Qi2 charging coil, which would improve alignment and make wireless charging accessories more convenient.

The main camera is also expected to receive a long-awaited upgrade. Samsung has used its 200-megapixel camera strategy for several years, but the sensor behind it may finally be replaced with a newer generation option. A more modern 200-megapixel sensor, possibly from the ISOCELL lineup, could deliver better detail, improved low-light performance, faster processing, and stronger zoom results.

This upgraded main sensor may also play a bigger role in zoom photography. Instead of relying heavily on a dedicated 3x telephoto lens, Samsung could use the high-resolution main camera to cover the 3x to 5x zoom range more effectively. If done well, this could produce sharper cropped images while simplifying the camera layout.

For users, the potential result is a cleaner camera system with better real-world performance. Photos taken at common zoom levels could look more detailed, night shots may improve, and Samsung could gain more flexibility inside the phone for battery and charging enhancements.

The Galaxy S27 Ultra is still far from launch, so details may change before release. However, if these early camera redesign claims are accurate, Samsung’s 2027 flagship could be more than a routine yearly update. It may mark a significant shift in how the Ultra series balances photography, battery life, and modern charging features.
